Black Mountain Crankset Powermeters

Spider-based units measure at the center and are great for high-torque climbing and impact protection, while spindle-based systems tuck electronics into the axle for better weather resistance. Full crankset swaps give a complete upgrade for aggressive riding, and crank-arm meters offer a simple, lightweight option for mixed terrain.

Match the crank length (most mountain cranks sit between 165–175mm) and confirm bottom bracket compatibility like DUB or a 30mm spindle to preserve chainline and Q-factor. Also check crankarm-to-chainstay clearance and whether a direct-mount spider fits your specific crank model.

Spider-based power meters excel at handling central forces and protecting electronics from impacts between the rings and cranks, while spindle units keep components sealed inside the axle for superior mud resistance. Rotor’s 2INpower example shows a combined approach for dual-leg data while still addressing rough off-road conditions.

Most quality units advertise accuracy around ±1.0% and cadence can be measured via accelerometers or magnets with very low error at typical pedaling rates. Battery systems vary by design, but many offer rechargeable options and run times in the 200–400 hour range.

You need to match BCD and bolt counts—common patterns are 104 BCD and 110 BCD, plus 3‑bolt, 4‑bolt, and SRAM 8‑bolt direct mounts for Eagle/XX1—because mismatched patterns affect chainline and shifting. Modular systems like Race Face/Easton CINCH can ease swaps, but direct-mount spiders are often limited to specific crank families such as SRAM X-Sync or Shimano XT/XTR.
