Men's Triathlon Bottoms

Triathlon shorts are the go-to for sprint and Olympic events in warm weather because they give fast transitions and freedom for the bike-to-run portions. Look for inseam options between 7 and 9 inches and mid-range performers like the Pearl Izumi Select for a balance of comfort and durability.

For Ironman and other long-distance events, athletes often opt for bibs or long-distance shorts to get added support and less fatigue over extended saddle time. The De Soto Forza and similar long-distance styles typically include triathlon-specific chamois and storage-friendly 4-pocket designs for longer efforts.

If you prefer minimal coverage for running, a 7-inch inseam usually feels freer, while a 9-inch inseam gives more leg coverage and bike-side protection. Models like the Zoot Core 7-Inch illustrate how inseam changes fit, and numbered sizes such as 39 or 40 help you dial in the right overall fit.

Yes, certain triathlon bottoms feature mesh-lined pockets or 4-pocket configurations designed to carry bottles and nutrition without retaining water. Synergy’s Elite tri shorts are a good example, using bottle-carrying mesh pockets for easy mid-race access.

Fabric choice and seam construction determine how a bottom performs across swim, bike, and run—triathlon-specific chamois and reinforced seams reduce chafing and extend garment life. De Soto’s San Diego–designed construction reflects tested manufacturing practices that focus on durable seams and race-ready materials.
