Kids' Paddle Thermal Wear

Match the style to conditions: splash tops and squirt pants (like the Whirlpool Splash Top) block spray in decked boats, while shorty wetsuits work for milder, quick trips. Farmer John styles add torso and leg coverage with 2–3mm neoprene for longer sessions in choppy rivers or cool lakes.

A snug, true-to-size fit is best so the neoprene can trap a thin layer of warm water while preserving mobility. Adjustable necks or cuffs help through growth spurts, and reinforced knees or seats reduce wear from paddling postures.

Two- to three-millimeter neoprene is the common choice for cool 50–60°F water because it balances insulation and flexibility. Many kids’ paddle pieces, including Shorty Neoprene Wetsuit styles, use nylon-lined, limestone-based neoprene and 4-way stretch to keep strokes unrestricted.

Reinforced high-wear zones like knees and seats, glued-and-stitched seams, and flatlock stitching cut down on abrasion and chafing during frequent paddling. Waterproof zippers and stretchy neoprene also help maintain a low-profile fit and good range of motion in the cockpit.

Yes — hoodless designs are made for helmet compatibility, and splash tops or squirt pants sit comfortably under PFDs in decked boats. UPF 50+ panels and quick-dry neoprene add sun protection and thermal comfort while keeping a slim, non-bulky fit.
