Kids' Mittens

For mild cold and everyday play, fleece-lined mittens with a soft interior are the easiest choice, while shell mitts work well as lightweight waterproof over-layers in snowy, wet conditions. Insulated waterproof mittens with Primaloft or GORE-TEX are better for skiing, snowboarding, or heavy snow; models like the Reima Ote focus on waterproof warmth.

Toddlers need mittens that are simple to put on and secure, so adjustable wrist straps, clips, and glove leashes are helpful for sealing out snow and preventing loss. Sizing that runs toddler to youth and mitten geometry that groups fingers makes on-off easier and boosts warmth for little hands.

GORE-TEX and similar waterproof membranes offer high waterproof ratings and breathability, which matters during long days in heavy snow or on the slopes. For everyday reliability, LL Bean mittens are noted for soft interiors and snow-proof straps, while dedicated GORE-TEX models hold moisture out on wetter outings.

Yes—look for reinforced palms, PU leather grip panels, and weather-resistant exteriors to stand up to repeated sledding and wet-snow play. Durable stitching and quick-drying fabrics also extend the life of insulated waterproof constructions used in skiing and heavy use.

Many kids' mittens include extras such as goggles wipes, warmer pockets, and clip-on strings, and a number of options offer touchscreen compatibility on 11+ models. Brands vary their features—MCTi, for example, emphasizes cozy fleece and PU palms for improved grip, while other mittens focus on wipe panels and added pocket warmth.
