Girls' Gray Insulated Jackets

Synthetic fills like PrimaLoft Gold or Heatseeker Eco work best if kids will be in damp conditions because they retain loft when wet and a 100-200g fill provides a good warmth-to-weight balance. Down performs better in dry cold, and hydrophobic-treated down can help in mixed conditions but tends to dry more slowly than synthetics.

For wet snow, aim for a technical insulated shell with a 10K-20K waterproof rating plus sealed seams and a powder skirt to keep snow out during skiing or sledding. Jackets with DWR-treated nylon shells and breathability up to 15K g/m², like Roxy’s insulated models, handle wet powder much better than standard puffies.

Size so there’s room for a base layer and a bit of growth—look at growth-friendly ranges from small to XL for ages 4–16 and choose articulated sleeves for freedom of movement. Features such as grow cuffs, shorter hemlines, or thumbholes reduce ride-up when kids run and layer up.

Yes, packable synthetics like the Patagonia Nano Puff use recycled synthetic fill and compress small, making them ideal for hikes and casual outings in mild chill. They aren’t as warm as a 200g midweight winter coat but are great for layering and handle damp conditions better than untreated down.

Choose shells made of nylon or polyester with a DWR finish and abrasion-resistant panels at cuffs and hems to withstand playground wear. Reinforced seams, bluesign-approved fabrics, and recycled polyester content over 50% also improve longevity and environmental credentials.
