Yellow Blankets

Car camping and tailgating are well suited to versatile puffy blankets like the Backcountry Puffy, which offer 50D ripstop shells and extra loft for comfort. For ultralight backpacking, opt for a quilt such as the Enlightened Equipment Revelation that prioritizes compressibility and packability down to golf-ball size.

If you sleep alone, a 1-person dimension around 72x52 inches gives enough torso and arm coverage without extra bulk; couples often prefer larger 2-person sizes up to about 84x64 inches. Rectangular blankets work well for ground coverage, while quilts or footbox designs are better when you want tailored sleep performance.

Many puffy blankets use a 50D ripstop nylon shell with a DWR finish, so they shed light moisture and are often machine-washable for easy care. That construction plus seam-taped baffles helps durability while keeping maintenance straightforward.

Prioritize high fill-power down and low weight—models like the Katabatic Palisade advertise 900+ fill power and quilts can fall into the 1.0–3.8 lb range for serious packability. Also look for temperature ratings (some quilts are rated down to about 20°F) and a design that minimizes cold spots with reinforced seams.

Quick-dry synthetic picnic blankets such as Nomadix are designed for wet ground and sandy beaches, and thicker options like the Yeti Lowlands add extra comfort plus a handy carry bag. Features like corner loops or a roll-up bag—found on pieces like the Nemo Victory Patio—make setup and transport simpler.
