Gray Bike Travel Cases

Soft-sided bags are lighter and more flexible, making them good for cars, trains, or short flights while giving moderate protection for MTB or gravel bikes. Hard-sided cases use impact-resistant ABS or polycarbonate shells for heavy handling, and hybrid options like the EVOC Travel Bag Pro offer a middle ground at about 17 lbs 13 oz.

Check internal dimensions such as 140–155cm length and whether the case accepts a 62cm road frame or 29‑inch MTB wheels with wheels removed. If your bike’s wheelbase or bars are long, pick a case with extra internal length or plan for more disassembly to fit.

For long-haul air travel, hard-shell protection is recommended because polycarbonate or ABS shells better resist heavy impacts during handling. Models like the Thule RoundTrip MTB combine that rigid protection with easy-rolling wheels to move through airports more smoothly.

Integrated fork mounts, clip-on wheel compartments, and quick-pack systems cut down on how much you need to dismantle and speed up repeat packing. Many designs from Dakine and EVOC pair padded interiors and EVA foam stabilizers with those features to keep the bike secure and quick to load.

Soft-sided bags can protect a full-suspension MTB on rough roads for short trips or car travel by offering padded interiors and water-resistant coatings, but their protection is moderate. If you expect repeated rough air travel or have fat tires or oversized frames, consider a hard or hybrid case or be prepared for full disassembly to fit a compact case.
