Alpha RoS 2 Jacket

Rebelling against a winter of indoor training is the Castelli Alpha RoS 2 Jacket, a feature-heavy barrier against nature’s bite, ensuring the miles are logged even in the harshest conditions. As Castelli’s premium winter jacket, the Alpha RoS 2 gets a double-layered Alpha construction with an inner insulation layer and outer Gore-Tex Infinium wind and water barrier. The layers provide protection down to 23 degrees F and superior wind and water resistance to brace against pocket showers or a ride-long drencher.

Castelli manages to engineer subtle and effective traits into the Alpha RoS 2 that, at first glance go unnoticed, but act as welcomed finishing touches you’ll appreciate during mixed weather riding. Further adding to the comfort and warmth characteristics are the high neck, which prevents cold air rushing on the chest, and the double layer cuffs that seal out water and wind and allow for expert fitting under gloves. A water-resistant zipper and taped shoulder seams seal out areas that are prone to water ingress, while discreet back flaps vent out heat to maintain comfort on rides up to 50 degrees F and during intense interval sessions. Castelli adds drainage holes to the pockets, which provide an extra dose of security compared to the mesh openings of previous jackets. A zipper side-pocket corrals valuables for the long haul.

I've used it several times

My only complaint about this jacket is that the sleeves are a little too long. (I don't typically have issues with sleeves being too long.) This isn't a lightweight jacket. It's very warm. I've worn it for temps in the 30-40s. This doesn't vent well enough if the temp rises so the jacket only works well if it's going to be cold the entire ride. I was concerned about there not being pit zips but the jacket vents well in low temps while still being warm. I ordered XS and can only fit a long sleeve top underneath so if you want to layer more underneath consider sizing up.

Very, very nice but too big for me

I returned this product before using it

I did a lot of reviews of winter jackets, and this was on every list of the "best". It is expensive, but so are a lot of other winter jackets. So, I ordered it, and it came today. The fiery red color is great. I won't wear dark colors anymore because drivers, and sometimes other cyclists, don't pay enough attention to others around them. The vest part is a good idea for people like me who don't like to mess with underarm vents. The rear pockets are deep enough and the side pocket will hold keys, but probably not a phone. I am a S/M (but more often M) and have traditionally bought L in Castelli clothing. However, the last two L tops, Synergia and this Alpha Ros, were definitely too big. I am going to stop ordering L in Castelli, even when given suggestions to size up for a looser fit. I consider myself now a medium in these tops. It's not like I've lost weight--it' seems Castelli has more real-world sizing, thus the True to Size rating below.. Sadly, I'm returning this jacket and there are not any more fiery red mediums in stock..

love love love this jacket! riding in high 30 to low 40 temps with my giordana base layer and i am toasty warm! in high 40 to low 50 temps you can unzip and just use the inner vest. my go to jacket along with my elemento for even colder temps! typical castelli sizing issues - purchased a large and it worked but just barely. had to go to an xl in the elemento
