Why We Like The Shock Absorbing Control Leash

When we’re training a new pup (or have one that likes to pull), the Carhartt Shock Absorbing Control Leash makes walking around town a lot more comfortable for both of us. Its elastic design eases jolting when our pup decides to take off after a squirrel to help reduce impact to their necks and bodies. For us, the neoprene lining means we can maintain a comfortable and firm grip whichever way they pull.

Clasp Opens Easily

I have the harness and this leash for my husky/pyrenees mix. It's very cute but terrible product design. The clasp opens when he tugs. He eventually broke it. Do not recommend for bigger breeds!

Latch Unhooks from Harness

I have had this leash for around a year and a half and did not have a problem with it until tonight. As I was walking my dog, the leash just BOOP disconnected from her harness. We live in philly so she bolted across the street and it created a really dangerous situation. Commenting to let people know that the leash is NOT a buy it for life product, the metal in the latch will give way for potential unhookings and future run-aways.

Best Leash Ever

I love this leash. It has a padded handle; it is way more reflective than similar leashes; the shock absorbing feature is perfect for my dog: she is an 88 pound Rottweiler cross who will stop suddenly to sniff something while I'm still walking, so now I get a warning by feeling increasing pressure rather than my arm getting pulled suddenly; it has another handle built in ahead of the shock absorber for when I need to keep my dog close by; and the best feature is the trigger claw clasp: it doesn't cut my thumb like so many other clasps with a slide that exposes very sharp edges on the shank. The only improvement that I would suggest would be to add a tab that I could insert into a seatbelt buckle in the car.

Needs a stronger latch design that isn’t easily opened with force

Overall aesthetically the leash is very Nice I like the bungee aspect and the fact that you could clip this around your waist for a hands-free walk however the latch is not a good latch for a strong dog for instance I have a Belgian melon Wah who is still in training and he was able with enough force to get free of the latch

Not a good choice when training a new pup. The extra D ring just slides around and is useless. The lead and D ring needs a better configured design to be useful. The "shock" absorbing idea is better for an older dog or smaller dog. With the cost of this leash, don't waist your money.

Flawed design

The shock absorbing portion wears out and stretches within a few months with daily use (dog about 65 lbs). This leaves you with a longer leash than you may be comfortable with. Also keep in mind that the shock absorbing gives the dog slack. If you are training your pup or your dog wants to pull away from you this does not allow you to pull back on the dog. Not a great quality if meeting new dogs or children. The leash is very well made. I would recommend one of the other two Carhartt makes.

I WILL be buying 2 more! ? Loss Backups!

My service dog owns a lg variety of leashes and since this one was purchased for her I never reach for a different one. The convenience and quality are definitely above many other brands. Anyone complaining about their dog chewing through the leash with teeth made to kill and crunch bones seriously need to access their poor choice for buying a product not specifically made and advertised as being for challenging chewers. Very effective positive behavior correcting training tutorials are available and work amazingly well. Our fur buddies need and deserve the effort for their safety! No regular use product of any brand should receive negative comments or to be scored lower on reviews based on an outlier behavior from a pet. That isn't, by any standard, a flaw in the design, appearance, or construction. A request to design and produce a chain leash with their quality hold loops & metal work with other amenities if workable, would be perfect though. A few sizes and color options of those would definitely be a positive & attractive addition to the product line ?

Best leash I’ve owned

I love this leash! I’m able to clip it and then throw it over my head and wear it like a crossbody bag and then I have more control when we’re staying in one spot. My dog is on the smaller side and I’m only 5’1” so it works that way for us but maybe not for other people. Shock absorbing is really helping him learn not to pull as much because he can feel the tension without being instantly stopped and he’s started to correct himself more, again it works for me and my dog but might not for others. It’s very versatile and you can figure out how to use it for you and your pup. We love it!

Frustrated. What is the purpose of the buckle? Its a very heavy leash and no explanation what the buckle is for?
