Peace of mind without cutting off your circulation.

Want to keep track of your ice tools without the constriction of wrist leashes? Reach for the Black Diamond Slinger Leash, which is a lightweight version of the popular Spinner Leash. Its rugged steel mini clips to your axe for a secure connection, and its elastic webbing sheds more water than the nylon found on other leashes.

    also nice for ski touring

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

They don't get in the way on vertical ice, but I've still only used them on longer routes where losing a tool would be a Bad Thing. The carabiner wire gate seems weak--it popped out once on a route and took a lot of work to get it back inside, however that hasn't happened again. It must have gotten torqued somehow. The steel on the carabiner has started to rust which is a minor annoyance. I don't know if they could have used a heaver powder coating? Probably inevitable since it's steel on steel contact and thin aluminum would probably be too weak.

I like to girth hitch both leashes to a small biner and then I can easily detach the entire system from my belay loop.

My latest use is for ski leashes. My dynafit toe bindings have a small metal loop through which I place a few tiny, easily-breakable zip ties. Girth hitch the leash to my calf and then clip one of the zip ties.

Does it's job, keeps out of the way.

I like that the leash is elastic because you dont have excess slack to constanly deal with. I also love the carabiner style clip at the end. Attaches perfectly to my BD Raven ice axe. Clip one side to my axe and clip the loop to my harness or pack with another carabiner. The elastic has held up very well, it retains its elasticity despite many stretches.

Is this compatible with any ice tool...

Is this compatible with any ice tool type/brand? I have the Petzl Nomics

This leash is designed to be used with one mountain axe and is compatible with any axe that has a clip-in hole on the head of the axe. If you're planning on using the leash with ice tools, such as the Petzl Nomic, I'd recommend checking out the Black Diamond Spinner Leash, which is similar to this one, but has two clip in connections and a small swivel to keep the leashes untangled.
