Why We Like The Black Diamond Jetforce Pro Split 25L Backpack

The splitboarders among us trust the Jetforce Pro Split 25L Backpack and its splitboard-specific design for venturing out into unpredictable backcountry terrain. Not only does it include a redesigned Jetforce Pro airbag, but the airbag's deployment is designed to function with a snowboard strapped vertically. This bag features an electronically deployed airbag system with a rechargeable battery that deploys inherently faster than compressed air systems and takes up less space in our packs. Its also more travel-friendly, since compressed air systems must be unpressurized before flying.

  • Professional-level airbag built on a splitboard-specific backpack
  • Dedicated avy tool compartment includes single ice axe attachment
  • HiLo helmet holder stashes away when not in use
  • Snowboard and ski carry can deploy airbag with snowboard strapped
  • 25L capacity with added storage options from Black Diamond
  • Bluetooth compatible with the Pieps app for analysis and updates

Carries poorly and inefficient.

I was hoping this pack would make carrying it every day a no brainer compared to my old BCA pack but nope. Pros are: Definitely the best airbag technology. Don’t have to worry about an airplane, multiple pulls is great, self test is reassuring, I buy the case for deflating in case of a burial, larger airbag to protect from trauma seems good, the between the leg strap is well designed and easy to use, helmet carry is well designed and useful, axe carry is also well done, the avy gear pouch is well designed and very easy to access. The diagonal carry seems pretty good although you need to take off your pack to use it. Cons: It is a pretty terrible backpack, the shoulder strap adjustments are hard to use and it doesn’t have any strap on top of your shoulder for pulling the weight in, the hip belt is difficult to cinch and the webbing rolls every single day, while the multiple size attachments are cool they could have done better using straps to allow the pack to expand or contract depending on the day, the bag itself is not very organized, while you can move the zippers to any position for access practically speaking it functions like a top loader which reduces the efficiency of what you can put in there a lot. The result is that it packs smaller than it is. I pretty much always need to carry my 35L attachment unless it’s a really short and simple day. It also doesn’t really have any attachment points on the hip or straps for gear, radio, water bottle, snacks. The pull handle option on both sides is no necessary considering it sacrifices some option for radio/water bottle carry. The bottom line is while it’s a great airbag, I’m still always debating whether I am actually going to need/want to bring it and the weight isn’t really the issue it more about just organization and efficiency.

What is your life worth?

This is my 4th Jetforce pack and it is awesome. Great for practice and I hope I never have to deploy it to help save my life but I always wear it in case. Hopefully the battery system will last longer than the Pilot 11 very comfortable and good storage space.

So far it’s great

I had the older version from 2016 and this one is much lighter. It could use some more pockets, but other than that I am very happy. Haven't had to deploy it yet thank god.

Design flaws

These packs will come apart. The zipper that holds that cargo portion of these packs on WILL come undone and poof yard sale. The fact that bd hasn’t remedied this boggles my mind as it is one of the worst designs I’ve encountered. You will be in happy with this purchase.

I want to love this bag, but not there yet. As a small rider (5’2”), the smal/medium size is too tall for my frame… I can manage, but it’s definitely designed for taller people. To boot, the back frame is flat and with little support. I’m finding hot spots where it hits a belt loop, for instance. No less, I love the ease of the airbag set up and deployment. Three pockets are good for separation of gear, but admittedly, the airbag takes up a lot of space in the main compartment. Finding that I have to adjust what I pack in the bag. I’d love to see the split board specific bag in the larger size.

Peace of mind

I've put it through the wringer

This bag is the final addition in a backcountry setup, especially when you are in steep terrain. The multi-pulls on a charge offers you the peace of mind to deploy the airbag even if you think there's something, or if there is. It's the peace of mind that gives you the extra confidence out in the backcountry. Additionally, the design is well thought out, with a compartment for the essentials (beacon/shovel/probe) and enough room inside the pack for a day tour or an overnight trip.
