Absolute Mitten
Designed to be incredibly warm and waterproof, the Black Diamond Absolute Mitten protects your hands from the coldest temperatures and worst weather imaginable. It's an expedition-worthy mitten, allowing for extreme alpine and backcountry use in frigid conditions. The removable liner features a waterproof Gore-Tex membrane with XCR technology for optimum breathability when you're moving quickly while pushing peaks.
PrimaLoft Kodenshi insulation is combined with high-loft fleece for maximum heat-trapping loft in sub-zero conditions, allowing you to stay outside without sacrificing frostbite in shivering temperatures. The outer shell of the mitten is constructed from abrasion-resistant nylon with a reinforced thumb for working with fixed lines. Additionally, the goat leather palm is soft and supple, also standing up to rigorous use with KEVLAR stitching.

Extremely Warm
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I have very cold hands and these are the warmest mittens I have ever put on. They are soft and downy and just so cozy and kept my hands toasty in really cold weather when normally only hand warmers would have done the trick. Unfortunately, I purchased them for skiing and they are way too big and I cannot hold my poles without straining my thumb. My fault of course, if I had looked at the intended uses I would have realized these were the expedition mittens and not the right replacement for an older pair of warm Black Diamond mittens. I am going to give them to my father for acting as a mountain guide on frigid days and hopefully take them out winter camping sometime soon.

Very nice mitt!
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Great mitten! I ordered size L and the fit was ample with some room to add a thin liner glove if I needed (my hand girth was 9.25") . I ordered the BD Super Light mitten at the same time to compare. Both are very nice, but I fel the Absolute was a bit oo much for what I needed. I work outside studying raptors and needed a warm mitt for my winter eagle surveys. This work is not physically active, so I needed mittens that would keep me warm no matter what. Anyway, the Absolute is awesome and I would keep it if I was spending more time in harsher environments. The Absolute has a really nice inner mitt (lobster style w/separate index finger and 3 remaining fingers) that could be used on its' own. There's enough room in the inner mitt to be able to put your index finger in with the other 3 fingers. Form and function seem pretty good - large gaunlet with pull cord, nice leather palm and thimb, thumb with plush/soft nose wipe area. - though these are a bit bulky to use with binoculars/spotting scope. Not overly heavy. Plenty of insulation in the back AND palm of the mitt (the liner mitt is also insulated). Nice - get 'em, especially if they're on sale . Can't hoenstly claim how well they work in the cold, but I doubt there'd be any problems.

Are the durable enough for snowboarding? Worried the non-leather portion may be too lightweight.

While not 100% ideal these would work for snowboarding. My concern would be overheating in them more so than durability.
