    Big lid.

Whether you're a regular on the enduro racing circuit or prefer getting rowdy on the trails without a clock nearby, chances are good your helmet's seen some abuse over the years. When your current model earns a crack big enough to make you pause, swap it out for the Bell Super 3R MIPS Men's Helmet instead, and launch into serious lines wearing MIPS technology and full-face protection.

When you're rallying along desert slickrock below cloudless skies, the last thing you need is a helmet trapping the heat. Fortunately, enduro lids have come a long way in recent years, and Bell punched out ventilation wherever it could in the Super 3R without compromising the helmet's structural integrity. Brow channels, helmet vents, and chin guard vents all keep air moving and save you from overheating when the sun's overhead.

While the In-Mold shell protects against direct impacts, Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) technology helps absorb and diffuse indirect or oblique forces. MIPS is a thin inner basket sits more subtly on the inside of the helmet. During certain crashes, this slim layer rotates slightly to absorb rotational forces.

In addition to allover protection, Bell didn't forget about smaller features on the Super 3R as well. It gave the integrated camera and light mount a breakaway design. Bell also constructed the entire helmet with breakaway screws for quick removal in case of a more serious crash. Leaning more towards convenience, the adjustable visor integrates with a range of goggles, and X-Static padding creates a cozy fit between your noggin and the shell. The chin bar is removable too; stash it at camp when you're heading out on an easy trail ride, and bring it with you for rowdier days that involve less climbing.

    • Go big in this enduro helmet
    • MIPS technology diffuses rotational forces
    • Lightweight shell includes ample vents to help you stay cool
    • Adjustable visor integrates easily with goggles
    • Camera mount breaks away to reduce injury and device damage in a crash

    Just the right protection

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was looking for a full face for riding lift service DH. I ended up purchasing this convertible helmet due to the fact it is still a bike helmet. Some of the beefier full face felt like a motocross helmet and was a little too much for what I would be riding. I have yet to determine if it adequately will protect me on a nasty flow/jump trail fall, but so far it is comfortable and keeps me cool.

    super light and comfotable

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

I have only used this helmet a couple times but really enjoy it. It provides the additional protection I am looking for when riding lifts with out adding a ton of weight. I have used it with sunglasses and felt very comfortable. Although I don't plan on using it for much trail riding it can certainly be used for that.

    Two in one!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I Absolutely love this helmet! I love the fact that it has a detachable chin guard which is super convenient especially on hot summer days or when riding more mellow lines. Very lightweight and breathable on trail and while climbing!

    they fixed the fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

other than the spot-on comments about how versatile this helmet is, I'll add that they got the fit right, at least for my head. I bought the Super 2R before, and it was just a bit too round and while loose on the sides, it caused a pressure point on the forehead. Had to return that. But, the 3R is perfectly shaped. It's a keeper! Also proved to be comfortable on a humid 90* day last week (I did not run the chin bar, but a buddy with the same helmet did)

    Great Light Weight Protection!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It is perfect to stow away the chin bar on the uphill and attach back on for the downhill. I switched from the giro switchblade and like this one better.

    Great brain bucket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am not normally one for reviews, but this helmet is fantastic. I had a nasty fall last year that left me searching for more protection, while still being breathable and light. This checks all three boxes. The adjustable cheek pads are great, and so is the float system to ensure proper fit. I ordered a Large. For reference I wore a M/L TLD drone before this.

    Protect the dome piece

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Full face helmets used to be incredibly heavy and breathed terribly....the Bell Super 3 changes all that. You can easily detach the lower portion of the helmet for a climb, attach it for the descent, and add protection to your face. I have had a few spills that could have been much worse if I was not wearing the face guard portion of the helmet.
I use mine for enduro racing and big rides like Monarch Crest and the Whole Enchilada. The added protection is a massive benefit and you sacrifice very little weight when the face guard is in your pack for a big climb.

    Worth every penny

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've used this helmet at a couple different bike parks now and also used it during an enduro race last weekend. The helmet is extremely well ventilated and offers just the right amount of protection. I had a really bad crash recently and smacked the chin bar on a tree with quite a bit of force. It worked as designed and the chin bar didn't budge. Awesome helmet!

    My in between helmet

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this helmet for any time I am doing more trail riding but feel like I need a bit more protection on the downhill. I can ride up with just the regular helmet then just snap the chinbar on for any burlier descents. Its not quite burly enough for full downhill, but works great for longer enduro rides.

    Great Helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I use it mostly with the chin bar removed and really love it! It hasn't had a chance to save my melon yet, but the fit and quality are top notch. The chin bar is easy to remove and the dial to to tighten the fit works like a charm. I'm super happy with my Super 3R.

    Saved my Life

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I've bought this helmet before in an older version and didn't hesitate to buy this updated version as well.

It is great to have a helmet that can be used as a full face downhill helmet for every terrain, as well as a normal helmet for cross country riding and easier descents.

End of July 2017 i crashed on an expert trail, flew 25ft up in the air and landed pretty hard on my face. My arm broke fully and my body was all torn up. This helmet kept my brain in place, moved accordingly to the impact, my face slid through, my chin hit the ground and got a scratch, but other than that I have no injuries on my head. no neck pain, no brain injury, nothing! This helmet moved with the impact and therefore kept me safe!!! You can see a dent and scratch marks on the picture, what is evidence for the good quality of this product!

I will ALWAYS buy this helmet again and recommend it to anybody. Besides of that it comes in great color options.

The only con was that the adjusters in the back came lose and didn't tighten all the way anymore. A comfort issue.

    The best Endro Helmet yet?

Since the development of the Super 2R MIPS, I've been following this helmet line from Bell. Since many retailers are clearing out the Super 2R MIPS, and because of Bell's difficulty with the fit of the Super 2R MIPS, I bought two one medium one large. For reference my head measures 23 inches. I also ordered the Super 3R MIPS for comparison in medium. After receiving all the helmets, I tried them all on. As has been mentioned many times, I found the 2R to have a hot spot on the crown of my head. I also found the chinbar to be too snug. This is also a know challenge of the 2R. Then I tried the 3R, because the 3R chinbar has removable padding layers, I removed one layer and bingo, fit perfectly. Also, Bell redesigned the MIPS layer in the 3R and the hot spot at the crown of my head was gone! Bottom-line, Bell did a terrific job of redesigning a very good helmet, the 2R, to make a terrific helmet in the 3R! If you are looking for versatility and comfort, the 3R is very hard to beat. Yes, the price is steep, and ultimately because of this and what riding I will be doing going forward, I returned it, but if my needs aligned more to the helmet's design, I would purchase the 3R again and again!

    2 in 1!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I Absolutely love this helmet, yes a bit pricey but so worth it! I love the detachable chin guard on the helmet, for more mellow lines I like to take it off. It's a super convenient especially on hot Utah days when a full face is just too much! Still this helmet keeps you cool with all the vented holes when mobbing down hill.

    Best of both worlds

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was looking for a helmet that was both a full faced for extra protection and something light enough for those days of riding uphill. This helmet hits every point I was looking for. Great protection for the back of my head, customizable for downhill and uphill days, lightweight, looks good, adjustable visor...seriously, this helmet does it all!

Fantastic design, wish they made an XL

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small

I love the versatility of having the removable face guard, and the engineers really got this one right when it comes to simple design. In comparison to the Giro Switchblade, I think this system is easier and more intuitive.

However, the face guard on this Bell fits too snug on my jaw. I was wishing I could change out the foam inserts, but it didn't come with any alternatives and I was wary of cutting them down in order to fit me better. After wearing it for just a couple minutes, I started getting a headache. I checked for an XL, but Bell doesn't make one for this model. Also, my head circumference fits fine in the L, so not sure this would have solved my problem.

I ended up going with the Giro Switchblade, which was disappointing because I don't like the physical design nor the colors available as much as what Bell offers. Oh well.

Excellent when you need extra protection

No, it's not a full-on downhill helmet, but it's also not a full-on downhill helmet :-) The Super 3 provides extra protection to keep you from losing teeth, while being light enough that you'll actually use it on those gnarlier trail rides where something bad really could happen, but you want to be able to breathe and not overheat on the climb. The chin bar is easy to put on and take off (it's actually easier to do with the helmet on) and while it's not DH-certified, it's pretty sturdy and I'd rather crack it on rocks than my jaw. I bought it for my first enduro race, but will also use it when we ride fast, rocky trails where the consequences of a little slip could be serious.

Let's see how it breaks in...

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I recently purchased this helmet to replace a non-MIPS Super 2. My opinion on the relative fit between my old helmet and the Super 3 w/ MIPS seems to be a bit different than other reviews I have read. I've only used the Super 3 a few times since getting it, and I've not used it with the chinbar yet, but in the few rides I have done, I develop these hot spot pressure points on the crown of my head after about 1.5 hours of riding. After taking the helmet off for a few minutes, I can continue for the rest of the ride no problem. The helmet fits great when I first put it on, with even pressure around the crown of the head and no obvious pressure points, but like clockwork I develop these hot spots 1.5 hours into a ride. By comparison, my old Super 2 never got uncomfortable, even on a recent trip where we did 7 consecutive days of 4+ hour rides. Just the initial feeling if I compare the Super 2 (non MIPS) and the Super 3 MIPS side by side, they feel quite similar to me, with a good range of adjustment. They feel quite a bit different after I've been wearing them for a while though. I'll update the review if the fit gets better after more use.

    Here is the update:
The helmet has slowly broken in, and the hot spots I noticed when the helmet was new have gone away. I can do long (more than 2 hour) rides with no problem now. I've also had a few occasions to use the helmet as intended, with the chinbar strapped to my pack for the first, slow and climbing half of a long ride, then attaching the chinbar to the helmet for the downhills on the second half of the ride. Overall it is quite good for this purpose. The straps fit a little funny with the chinbar on compared to a real full face helmet, but on the other hand, this helmet works really well with sunglasses, whereas other full faced MX helmets I have owned really required goggles, which is not practical for the trail/enduro riding I do. Sure, for a day at the bike park, a real full face helmet would be better, but for everything else, the Super 3R is a really flexible option for doing a variety of types of riding. I'm happy with the purchase.
