    Patsey Marley Bib Pant

Since we're Backcountry Gearheads, pre-work dawn patrols in our beloved Wasatch Mountains are practically in our job descriptions, and those professional qualifications suggest we're uniquely positioned to inspire and certify a line of touring apparel that can stand up to the demands of the biggest days in the backcountry. We offered our insights to Flylow, which used its proven product expertise to build the Backcountry x Flylow Patsey Marley Bib Pants to our demanding spec. Named after one of our favorite local backcountry ski runs, these bib pants are prepared for whatever early-morning laps on Patsey Marley may bring: waist-deep powder, blustery winds, pelting snow, and steep skin tracks.

We wanted the ultimate combination of waterproofness and breathability—because internal moisture is possibly a backcountry skier's worst enemy—so we chose Polartec's NeoShell material for the construction of the Patsey Marley. It blocks wind and snow while wicking away moisture vapor more capably than the typical membrane, making the difference between soggy baselayers after a few minutes on the skin track and dry warmth all day. The bib itself features a super stretchy softshell material to further its breathability in high-sweat areas and promote full range of motion, while the fully articulated knees reduce restriction on technical kick-turns.

If things really start to heat up—and they will on Patsey Marley's steep ridge—the huge outer thigh vents let the air flow, and can also be easily pulled over to the side to create a drop seat when nature calls. Two pockets on the front of the bib are perfect for small essentials like sunscreen and skin wax, and, just in case the day involves a rappel into a seldom-skied couloir, the two thigh pockets are strategically placed to be accessible with a harness on.

    Epic day

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've already posted a review so see below for details, but I wanted to share this photo because it was such a fun day and these bibs really performed!

I was invited to go on a cat ski day with work and PC Powder Cats - perks of working at Backcountry!

Although it is hard to see the bibs because of how deep the powder is, I thought this photo would be a good testament to their quality! The bibs kept me fully dry on the snowy day and I will now forever be a bib wearer.

    Epic day

    Definitely Runs Small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 165lbs

These are so lovely! Just be sure to size up, especially if you have a booty and athletic legs. The rose colour is lighter than pictured here. I thought they would be more “magenta” but they’re quite light. Keep that in mind if you’re into lush coloured pinks. I am returning mine for the dusty blue and size large. I am 5 ft 8 and 165/ 170 pounds. Size small up top and medium down bottom (size 6 usually fits in lulu) shipping to Canada 🇨🇦 I hope this helps those taking the risk of ordering internationally. Customs can be the worst!

    Great bib for touring!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 115lbs

The Polartec NeoShell fabric is ahead of it's time, with the feel a breathability of a softshell and similar waterproofing to gore. This shell is perfect for touring or even resort days. You are thinking about this and I'll just say it but easy to pee in the backcountry for those ladies. So no zipper on the butt area that just looks weird and doesn't fit right. Just zip one side down and boom! You're back on the skin track or back at the lift line. Pockets are amazing too! If you skin and are prone to a couple laps, there is straps that come out and hold your skins, which helps drying your skins. They also fit true to size!

Doing this review with info from one of my friends who I tour with a ton and the fit is true to size and very comfortable. Also does not ride up like a lot of bibs do as well. Easy to layer underneath this, feel free to reach out if you have questions.

A bit big, but there are Features

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: L
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 145lbs

From my wife- These bibs are cute and functional. It's easy to put them on and to use the bathroom while wearing them. They're stylish and they'll keep the snow out 100%. They run a little small- I'm usually a medium but wore a large in these. I would recommend these bibs.

Better fit and features than the Foxy

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 150lbs

I was coveting me a pair of Flylow bibs, but I read all the reviews about the weird fit of the women’s Foxy. So I ordered four different models, men’s and women’s!

I have to admit I haven’t used them yet, but I wanted to comment on fit. I have “athletic” legs and a curvy bum, and while I had to size up from my normal size to a large for both Foxy and Patsey Marley, these (P.M.) are roomier in the thighs and don’t otherwise look so bulky all around. Follow the sizing chart and you’ll be ok. (I might actually go with the men’s Firebird size small, though.)

Love the features - side zips, access for bathroom breaks (a little easier than the men’s models), lots of pockets, thigh pockets are higher than on Foxy like on the firebird, more breathable upper. Weird that the straps are a d-ring rather than a plastic snap, but maybe they’ll be more durable. I can’t comment overall on durability but I like that it’s lightweight. It seems even better suited than the Foxy for backcountry. I wish it had the inner thigh zips, though.

I wish there were a black or gray version! The colors of the patsey marley aren’t my favorite and are hard to match with my other ski gear.

    Love these! I'm a fan!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XS
    • Height: 5'2"
    • Weight: 120lbs

These bibs are super sweet in functionality, fit, style, and comfort. I haven't brought these touring but they work just great at the resort. The material is very nice and thin while still blocking out snow and wind. Despite this, its a very breathable material. The features are great, the pockets in the chest are convenient and the vent zips are also handy for avoiding overheating. I am 5'2 and 120lbs with an athletic build (larger thighs and small waist) and the XS fit almost perfect, It is a tad bit looser and a little long but I dont mind. The waist is pretty snug on me but not in a bad way. The extra material gives it a relaxed look. Still a super sharp looking bib. The colors are pretty fun too. Would totally recommend!

You Need These. I Need These.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: M
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 150lbs

Need I say more?? Super cute, flattering, lightweight, soft and stretchy. I am tall but larges usually don't fit quite right so I tested out size M, and the bibs length adjusted well! The buckles on the strap are easily removed so they can be quickly put on and taken off. They offer great coverage, and the seat-drop thigh zipper is tooo good to be true. In love!

    I don't tour buuuuuuuuut

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I don't tour but wanted to test out the stretch and I was impressed. A bit snug so I would size up but I was very surprised with the stretch of the fabric. 10/10 color option!

    I don't tour buuuuuuuuut

    Will work for turns

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I'm usually skeptical about new gear because I'm very particular about what works for me in the backcountry, but these totally delivered! On the uphill, I really enjoyed the articulated cut and slight stretch of the material. I was wearing my thickest baselayer bottoms (and the bibs in a size small) and still had room to make efficient uphill strides. When things got toasty, as they do on steep skintracks, the side vents were impressively huge.

Another thing I really like about these was the breathable bib section. I was was worried about getting too hot, but the softshell upper totally lets your high-sweat areas like your lower back vent easily.

The vent zipper works from hip to thigh, so when you have to use the ladies woods it's super easy to unzip the size and pull the flap over to the other side so you can pee without having to take your top layers off—super necessary on long tours.

    You Need a Pair!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I had the opportunity to test these bibs early, and never wanted to take them off! They are super flattering, have a modern fit, and the Polartec NeoShell material is next level. I want BOTH colors! Backcountry x Flylow knocked it out of the park on this one, and the bibs are already receiving accolades from Outside Magazine and Freeskier Magazine!

    You Need a Pair!

I would like to know more about how they fit and ventilate. The last flow bibs I tried on didn’t work for me in terms of fit. When they were large enough to fit my butt/thighs, they were ginormous in the waist. I’d also be interested in ventilation - my current flylow pants have helpful zippers on the inside of the leg too.

    Hi Diana, Robin, and Nicole!

Yes, you can fit these over snowboard boots. I'm a snowboarder, and they fit perfectly over my boots!

These bibs are super comfortable! They move with you, and have a modern fit. I would think about sizing up if you'd like a little more room in your bibs :) We've prioritize fit, so the waist should fit nicely in whichever size you choose. The ventilation is great! The bibs have huge outer thigh vents that regulate temperature while you're in the backcountry.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    Hey Robin!

While there isn't a drop bottom, the vent zipper works from hip to thigh, so it's super easy to unzip the side and pull the flap over to the other side so you can pee without having to take your top layers off, which is necessary on long tours.
