Finally a modern high-float PFD that's comfortable
It's great to finally have access to a comfortable, quality built, high-float PFD with a modern design. For big, flushy flows on local runs, or trips to big-water expedition destinations, I'm stoked to have a tool designed to keep me safe when pushing the limitis.

A Happy Boater!
I am very happy with my new Indus PFD. I just spent the weekend on the water with it and I am impressed with the fit and comfort of this vest. I like the layout of the pockets, at first I wish it had the clam shell pocket but I now agree that the added profile isn't worth it in my mind. I can carry what I like to have with me on the river and still be able to climb back into a boat. There was one thing I thought I was giving up with the Indus; I thought I was giving up a hand warmer pocket. I never heard one mentioned in all the reviews I read or watched. Even after I got it and tried it on in the house. It wasn't until I was standing on a beach on the Kennebec River that my had made between the two front panels and there was the fleece hand warmer pocket! Perfect! I haven't had a swim in it yet that will be corrected in two weeks. Why did I get the Indus? I watched a YouTuber review who said something to the effect....that everyone is making comfortable life jackets with the bare minimum flotation to get a USCG approval. But boaters deserve a well fitting and comfortable PFD that has lots of flotation. I strongly recommend the Indus PFD.

Best Astral vest
Very good vest so far! I like the new zipper/pocket system. It makes me put less crap in my PFD. Just the important tools.

Great update to a classic!
Love this vest. Basically the same as the Greenjacket but with better float! I do like the zipper pocket on the front, it holds a lot. Fit is basically the same. Also like the included swift water pocket guide (def not to be confused with real training!) for a refresher or teaching a new person the basics.

Nailed it.
Everything I love about the GreenJacket, but with more float. OK, different pocket. But I think it was a good call. Having visibility of your feet while scouting + portaging is well worth it with the extra float up front. Plus, I'm pretty sure you can fit just as much in this pocket as the clamshell.

Big pockets & massive float
The Indus has room for all my rescue/pin gear and still has space for snacks :) I'm enjoying the extra float - and am pleasantly surprised that it doesn't restrict my paddling in any way. The only thing I don't love is the lash tab position. The rounded front leave a horizontally mounted knife poking out rather than laying flat; vertical mounting may fix this. There is a "knife pocket" that could work with a folding knife. I've only paddled coldweather/water so far - so TBD if it's too warm in the summer.

Best Whitewater Kayaking PFD on the market.
I've had 20+ days on the new Indus, coming out of the green jacket. This PFD is a total gamechanger for whitewater kayakers. It's everything I loved about the Green Jacket with none of the faults. It definitely feels big when dry and brand new but once wet, this jacket feels like there's nothing there, just like the Green did. The absence of the clamshell is actually a welcome feature as I didn't really use the old pocket and found it to just get in the way a bit. Most boaters bring way too much stuff with them on their body and I believe this philosophy needs to change (not speaking to Guides). The added float is incredible; I've found it adds assistance in rolling, especially in pushy IV+,V; the PFD actually pushes the boat to the surface quicker and makes rolls flawless. Out here in Colorado we have a lot of scrappy, thin creeks and the added float helps in this scenario incredibly; I haven't rang my bell once since starting to use this jacket in low volume scenarios. More float is finally better. If mobility between the Green and the Indus is in question, think again. Freedom of mobility is virtually the same. I even playboat in this thing all the time and loop around. It's my only PFD and I would absolutely buy another. Give it a chance, get the size right, and get out there. Well done, Astral.

Different and better
100 days on the river later. Having over 10 years in a Green Jacket, during activity it doesn't seem different, but it's better. Currently my go to jacket for river running I also wear it playboating. When you first put this on it feels bulky, trust me the design does not get in your way on the river. Pouch for throw rope, side pouch for tether, ample storage in the front pocket. I do miss the clamshell, but it still fits everything. I'm 170# 6' in M/L

The Revamp I've Been Waiting For...
Have paddled with it now enough to comment on comfort while wearing, but haven't tested its swimming characteristics. It replaced my second green jacket and years of paddling in those. Thank you Astral for making an update and giving us higher flotation with very little bulk or any noteworthy downsides in my opinion. I won't be going back anything less personally and feel better prepared for any out of boat experience that might be coming my way!

High Float, high water!
Stoked about the high float. Definitley bulkier than the green jacket, but still comfortable. Sufficient pockets for rescue gear, pin kit, flip line, etc... , but no room for the non-essentials (Sunscreen, snacks, etc... ). A lot of the flotation is around the waist, which keeps it out of the way. Its just what I expected. I think I will use this for spring/ high water trips and kayaking, but switch back to my green jacket for summer multi-day guiding as the pocket space is valuable for that.
