Would have been 5 stars if it weren't for the lacing

Nice ride, comfortable, perfect for long & easy runs, and good enough for speed (a bit on the heavy side). My only gripe is the lacing. Had to skip the 2nd lace to make it not rub the wrong way.

I love my Altra shoes!

I bought mine at Fleet Foots and wanted to find a barefoot shoe. They didn't have any, but showed me 3 options that had a wide toe shoe. I love these shoes! They feel so much better than my Brooks. I do a lot of walking for my job and I can wear these shoes for 10 miles and it still feels comfortable. I love the wide toe box and the medium cushion. I'm hoping they have a sale so I can buy a 2nd pair.

Shoelaces are too short

I love my Escalantes, but THE LACES ARE TOO SHORT (size 11). I don't know how many reviews Altra needs that state this, but apparently it's more than have already been written. With each pair I buy, I also have to buy laces. I was hoping that the new purple shoe (cuter in person than online, BTW) would have longer laces but, nope! Still way too short for a heel lock lace, or even for someone with a wide foot and high arch. And it's extra disappointing because the laces that come with the shoe are super cute and I can't find an exact match.

So disappointing!

I've worn Escalantes for several years now, but I had to return these. They felt tight, clunky and uncomfortable, the thick tongue was not an improvement over the soft, thin, sock-like one on the previous model. PLEASE bring back the older version, with some neutral color options! I can't find any other shoes to equal those!

very different, and worse, than the earlier escalante

Been buying Escalantes for many years - have had opinions about small things that were better/worse on different models, but overall, they were all good and I kept buying. These Escalante 3 I just bought are NO GOOD. The cushioning is too much, they don't feel like a zero drop, and while they say it is the same standard foot shape it feels more narrow in the same size i've been buying for years. Laced as loosely as can be over the mid-foot, they still press and rub, but at the same time, feel loose in the heel. The laces can barely tie with how loose I had to make it to not have my feet fall asleep. Feels totally different on a run. They are different enough I psyched myself out thinking ?have I really been buying escalantes, maybe my old shoes have always actually been the racers? - but sadly, no. These are just a completely different and worse shoe. Will not buy again unless the features go back - which is sad because I've been so happy just getting the same shoe for years - will be a bummer to try to find another brand/model fit.

Listen to people

The lady just told ypu these are horrible :( You don't even have anything to say? Did you pass on the message? Why change a good thing? Do you also run? Doesn't our opinion override yours?

So so

These are okay. I loved the Kanyenta with the sockliner and wide toe box as well as the flexible uppers as well as the sufficient shoelaces. Nothing can beat the Kanyenta for me. The uppers in this Escalante are stiff and the shoelaces way too short, cannot even try them outside until I get a pair of decent shoelaces. Got the navy, love the color.

Please sell the Escalante 2.0 to me!!!!!

We are a family of runners. For years the Altra Esclante has been our preferred shoe! We've literally gone through almost a hundred pair. UNFORTUNATELY, all the things we love about the shoe-wide toe box. Zero drop, light weight-are gone in this version of the Escalante. I know the company has changed hands recently. It appears the new owners are trying to compete with all the other shoe brands instead of keeping their loyal customers happy! :( I used to recommend Altra 100% of the time. I no longer feel like I can recommend them at all! :( My daughter had her very first running injury as a junior in high school because these shoes don't have room for her toes to work like they are supposed to. The lack of a zero footbed probably also contributed! We are SO disappointed!!!!! If the new owners don't want to go back to the Escalante 2.0 design, please sell me the rights so I can make something good for running in again!!!!!

BRING BACK THE OLD ESCALATES! ZERO DROP!!!

I loved my Altras! But when it came time to get a new pair and I got these ones, I was not satisfied! I miss the bigger toe boxes and ZERO DROP! These new ones just hurt my feet! Running is just so much harder when you can't actually run in your shoes! Bring back the old escalates! They were awesome!

Serious design flaw

Serious design problems. If I run on a road that is even slightly damp, the tread grabs all moisture from the road and wicks it directly into my shoe. Within 5 minutes of running on a damp road (no puddles at all) the forefoot of the shoes are totally soaked to the point that I'm spraying water off the front of my shoes at every step. I have been running in Altras for almost a decade and have never had a problem like this. I live in the Pacific Northwest, so these shoes are pretty much useless to me except on a treadmill.
