Why We Like The HighRoad Upright Bike Mount

If you've been dreaming of long, empty stretches of ribboning tarmac all week long, you know what to do when Friday afternoon rolls around. Pack your bags and throw your road bike on the roof with the Yakima HighRoad Upright Bike Mount holding it close, and get out of town. As Yakima's latest addition to its upright mount family, the HighRoad comes with the same user-friendly attitude as the rest of the brand's mounts. Its adjustable hoop and cradle adjust to fit anything from your road racing frame to your trail bike with minimal effort, and it attaches to most roof racks currently on the market with a simple, tool-free design.

Easy and Secure

Great design. Only piece that doesn't come attached are the ratchet straps for the back wheel. I would caution if you are using for a mountain bike to check your wheelbase. Mine is 47.5 and the rack can hold 48.

Perfect

I have a pair of these on my Focus hatchback. They fit everything from 2.8” 27.5” tires to 2.6” 29ers. Fits my large size full suspension MTB no problem and is very secure. Overall the hitch racks are probably better but for my car the roof rack is great - easy to get bikes on/off and gives full access to the trunk for tailgating after a ride. The design is super simple: bikes go on and come off in 1minute. I bought the lock cylinders to use with the included lockable wire loop for a bit of security but don’t expect it to survive a pair of bolt cutters.

Sweet Rack

After doing a lot of research I decided on the HighRoad Rack. This is my first rack and I am very satisfied with it! Very easy to install and it holds my bike perfectly! I have had no issues with the rack while driving down the highway or bumpy forrest roads. Would highly recommend to a friend!

Next best thing to a hitch

If you can't have a hitch on your car or don't want to spend the extra money, this is a great option. It is super easy to attach your bike securely and it doesn't move at all once it's on right. You can go high speeds without worrying about the safety of your bike.

Will Hold Your Bikes At Any Speed

Extremely easy to install. It takes 1 minute to load your bikes too! Held both of my very precious road bikes on the HWY at 90 MPH, I made my group ride on time. That's the most important thing.

Perfect for my Subaru

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is my second Yakima roof rack. I have them both on top of my Impreza and they both work great. Very secure and reassuring when putting my pride and joy on top of my car. At the end of the day I would rather have a hitch rack but this roof rack is the next best thing.

Great idea for a smaller vehicle

We purchased these because they are cheaper than a hitch rack - side note, make sure to buy the SKS locks separate. Kind of lame they are sold separately. We drive a minivan, and realized that it would be a hassle to be lifting up a 30lb+ bike onto the top of the van, especially compared to a hitch rack that allows you to just put the bikes on the back of the car. I think this would be a great product for a different need. I returned it and went with a Thule hitch rack.

Rack it up.

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

We picked this up for the car when we pulled the camper and brought the dogs along. The rack is of good quality and is pretty easy to use and install on the car we tried it with a 29" wheel MTB and with my BMC TMR01 aero bike. I was concerned with the road bike as it has very limited clearance between the front tire and the frame (aero bikes) but no issues. If you want to lock it down to the car and lock the bike I recommend picking up a set of Yakima locks (Yakima SKS Lock Cores - 2 pack Item #YAK0017) that can be easily installed. My only complaint is the knob to tighten the front bar against the tire. I feel it would be nice if it had some sort of quick movement so you wouldn't have to spin it up and or back every time you want to load or unload the bike. simply nit picking. Overall it works great and is very secure

Great rack

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I have only used it on bikes with 700C wheels but it will fit fat tire bikes and 26" wheels. I had a problem with my old rack that held the bikes by the front fork. The vintage bikes don't have safety tabs to hold the fork in, and on some long trip (800 miles) the fork vibrated loose from the fork mount. This rack holds the bike by the front tire and feels very secure, I don't think that this will have the same problems. I have used this rack about 10 times so far but have only gone 5-6 mile per trip. It is really easy to setup and use.

Fantastic Rack!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The install on the Yakima HighRoad Upright Bike Mount literally takes 5 minutes out of the box which is utterly brilliant! This fits 26" to 29" wheels with tire widths up to 3.25" so it is super versatile and can definitely meet your demands and needs if you have a couple of different rides! Lastly worth noting and reiterating that the SKS locks are sold separately. Thanks!

Can this be securely mounted in a truck bed? If not, do you have a suggestion for securing bikes in a truck bed?

Hey Stephanie! The only way to securely mount this rack to a bed of the truck would be to use a rail system like this one - https://www.competitivecyclist.com/yakima-bedrock-4-pack-w-locks Another option that we have for trucks is the Insta-Gator from Thule. This neatly secures inside the tail-gate of your truck and nothing else is required! https://www.competitivecyclist.com/thule-insta-gator-truck-mount If you have any other questions regarding these racks, just shoot me an email at PBraunstein@competitivecyclist.com!
