The Wild Country Ropeman 4 Ascender rides on our harness every time the terrain turns vertical, whether we're working a self-belay up an aid pitch or setting up an emergency self-rescue system halfway up a wall. That confidence comes down to the details. The redesigned sideplate closure locks directly into the cylinder, so there is no lateral opening and no rope getting pinched between plate and cam, even when we're working the device one handed on an overhanging pitch. Machined from lightweight aluminium alloy and built around a stainless steel axle, the Ropeman 4 handles a wide rope diameter range from 8 to 13mm and doubles as a sling adapter for tubular and flat webbing from 10 to 15mm. A full rotation cylinder hole keeps it moving freely around HMS and oval carabiners, so it never fights us for position when the pace picks up.
