Our Only Boot Since 1984
We bought our first pair in 1984 and have bought a pair every other year since. We wear a new pair for dress for two years, then wear it on the trails for two years, then retire it to lawn and garden work for two years. We publish a newspaper and outdoor magazine and write equipment reviews for both. We used to post a new review every two years just to remind our readers the Sundowner was still the best boot out there but since COVID none of our local stores carry it so we can't get a pair to review. We're hiked all the major national parks, the Appalachian Trail and other wilderness and recreation area trails, all with Sundowners. We usually send a pair off for resoling twice during its lifetime. We consider it an icon of the hiking and backpacking world along with SVEA stoves, Camp 7 Sleeping Bags, Universal Loadmaster Frame Packs, Thermarest mattresses and Walrus Tents. Someday they'll all be in the backpacking hall of fame.

Longevity
I bought my sundowners over 30 years ago and they are still good looking, waterproof, and perfectly comfortable. Nice for winter hiking.

I've owned over 40 pairs
I love these boots. I have had at least one pair per year every year for the past 30 plus years. My favorite boot for backpacking hands down. Very happy the skywalk sole was refitted as opposed to whatever took its place for a few years. I've worn them since I was 14 so not sure if my foot grew to the boot or if they are just perfect for my feet.

35 years old and still going strong
I bought a pair in 1987. They have lasted over 35 years without an issue. Still waterproof and looking good. Finally the sole separated - reglued easily back into vintage condition. These are without doubt the best shoes of this type I have ever had.

Reliable boot through the years
Bought my Sundowners back in 1995 and still using them. A more classic style hiking boot, I always appreciate their grip. New advances in lighter modern boots have moved this boot to my winter hiking gear shelf. Mostly use this boot with crampons or micros… need to get them resoled one of these days.

Strictly Fashion
I got my 1st pair in 1995 for my 1st hiking trip. It was my last hiking trip but definitely not my last pair of Sundowners. I bought every color and wore them strictly for fashion. My favorite color was the burgundy mahogany ones. Will you be making that color again?

Happy they brought it back, hate the white thread
I had a pair of the old Sundowners in the 90’s when I was just starting backpacking. Quintessential and somewhat underrated boot. I like that they gave it a more cushioned midsole and are offering wide fits. The only update I really don’t care for it the white stitching. I’m pretty sure the original wasn’t white, and think the contrast looks dumb, especially since the stitching is a little weak (low-ish stitch-count), and the white thread just highlights that.

Not the same
In the 90s I had my first pair last 13 years with hard use, unbelievable comfort....I bought the new ones same size as my old, to small..I went up a half size to big....just not the same boot...now I have 2 pair of boots I can't wear...

My Sundowners are still waterproof 26 years later!
I bought a pair of Sundowners in 1997. I went back to school shortly thereafter, followed a few years later by a time consuming job. I didn't have the time to wear them much for almost 15 years. But then I started wearing them frequently. Now, 26 years later, I still have them and they are still completely waterproof!!! Amazing! Great job, Vasque!!!

Uppers great and soles terrible
Have bought 3 pairs of sundowner gtx over the last 15 yrs. and all had sole problems. I have hiked with these boots all over the Smoky Mountains and a good bit of Glacier National Park. I really loved these boots but the soles never stayed intact for more than a year
