Topo Athletic Hydroventure Trail Running Shoe - Men's
Rule the rutty ridgeline.
Built for muddy switchbacks, slick descents, and rutty ridgelines, the Topo Athletic Men's Hydroventure Trail Running Shoe delivers a precise fit and comfortable ride throughout the course of your trail run. Thanks to the Hydroventure's breathable yet bombproof H2O Proof membrane, the microclimate of your foot remains dry, preventing fun-breaking hotspots and blisters. Additionally, the anatomical toe box encourages the natural splaying of the toes and foot and makes for a more natural feel while you run. The responsive EVA midsole ensures just enough cushion while the rock plate discourages bruising and the high traction sole provide ample stability and traction.

I've put about 50 miles on these shoes so far and have been really liking them.
I've only used 6 and 9mm drop shoes prior to these, and I am happy to have a 3mm drop to change things up a bit. The lower drop makes it feel a little more aggressive and ready to take on challenging trails.
I was able to get one great run in last week. The weather was pouring rain at the trailhead and by the time I reached my turn-around, there were 3 inches of fresh snow on the trail. I even skipped a couple bridges and ran straight through low creeks to really test out the waterproofing. The shoes did not let any moisture in all day! The thick soles are great for long runs and rock/scree protection.
I'm one or two runs away from diving fully into winter-mode, but I am STOKED to put some serious miles on these shoes next summer.

After loving the MT-2 I was looking forward to checking out this waterproof topo trail shoe. I couldn't have been more disappointed, It's the anti-mt-2. While the fit is similar the shoes share no other DNA with the MT-2. whereas the MT-2 is light and flexible the hydroventure is stiff and incredibly heavy. The Topo MT-2 is airy. You'll rarely find your foot drenched in sweat because it breathes , The hydroventure on the other hand is aptly named because you're feet will be drenched in sweat until you remove the shoe. It's like sticking your feet in plastic bags. It's just awful and nothing less than gross . Topo please buy some name brand waterproof membrane like goretex that actually breathes.
The bottom line is that the MT-2 is incredibly nimble and well ventilated while the hydroventure is incredibly stiff, inflexiable, heavy and anything but nimble.
