Hedgehog Fastpack GTX Hiking Shoe

The North Face Men's Hedgehog Fastpack GTX Hiking Shoe is surprisingly light for how protective it is. Gore-Tex gives the Hedgehog waterproof, breathable protection, and PU-coated leather keeps the upper strong while mesh ensures breathability and reinforcements add durability. The Hedgehog Fastpack GTX also features The North Face's Cradle Guide midsole for soft impact absorption and a firmer toe-off at each step. Cradle also includes a full-length EVA midsole for cush and a TPU shank for heel stability. Underneath, Vibram rubber keeps the sole grippy and durable.

  • Light hiker backed by Gore-Tex waterproof, breathable protection
  • Abrasion-resistant mesh upper with PU-coated leather reinforcements
  • OrthoLite Hybrid footbed with cushy EVA midsole underneath
  • Cradle heel-stability technology with shank for added arch support
  • Vibram XS Trek provides a lug patter ideal for wet and dry surfaces

Mostly comfortable Gore-Tex Shoe

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
Runs large

It's been a while since I've had a pair of Gore-Tex shoes. Even as Gore-Tex is a top-flight material, I prefer more breathable footwear but I needed something for the spring muck so made the compromise. These run a little large. I wear a 12 in Nike and got these in 12. Should have gotten an 11.5 but I'd already done a messy hike in them so I'm stuck with them. Construction seems to be solid. Only time will tell how the metal eyelets hold up. I have to cinch the laces down tightly since I have a slightly narrower than average foot. On the plus side, no blisters from day one. Can't say that about every hiking shoe/boot I've had.

I was looking for a good, light weight, water-proof trail hiking shoe and this meets about 50% of the requirement (light weight and water-proof). I found it to be very wide, even in the regular width, and very little support for a trail hiker, i.e. on descents. Before I wore them I immediately replaced the foot bed which is what I do with most shoes, and it requires a heavier than normal sock. I made the change to go lighter and paid the price. Recommended for wet weather on 'easy' trails. My previous trailer hikers were the Northface Ultra 109 GTX which I wore the sole smooth. An awesome alternative to this sub-par model.

I am 6 foot 4, with a massive frame. I walk 5 miles a day using these shoes on the treadmill or outside walking. The stability and design of these shoes are remarkably strong. I have had a pair over a year with at least 300 miles logged and no sign of wear. My wife even bought several pair, outside they keep your feet dry when it is cold and raining, we live in the upper midwest, so temps fall below zero often. North face has discontinued these shoes, just a month ago, the new model is receiving poor reviews as Gortex is no longer added to the new models. I bought 3 pair of these shoes at the clearance price, when you have a size 14, you better get them while in stock!

Well this is just in two times of hiking so far with one to the Shenandoah and one to the Hapers Ferry on MD/VA line and the shoes are comfortable right of the box and seems to be holding up well so far but sure thing will want to see how they will hold after another couple of time of this rigorous business. First time involved water and GorTex did what it was supposed to as waterproofness but the lace one side sort shrinked on its own a bit with some movement but is still functional good way never the less . I like these hiker overall as true to size and comfort and will want to see how how they will hold up with more use.

I’ve had many pair of North Face shoes over the years including multiple Hedgehog Fastpack pairs and these are horrible. I’ve never been disappointed before but these shoes simply won’t break in and remain extremely uncomfortable with a number of hotspots. I would strongly advise selecting a different model if you are considering purchasing these. The North Face should remove these from the market in my opinion, they are that bad.

I bought the Blue/Black version of this boot for $72 which was a great price for a solid boot. I've trouble to justify $120 for any boot. I've worn these thru the snow and deep puddles of NH for about a month and they have performed perfectly. Good support and very warm and comfortable. They will last for many years. I look forward to getting our on the trail and doing some hiking. Solid construction and excellent traction on rock and ice. Comfortable and light enough for everyday wear.

The enduro motor cycle of shoes

Context is important, I've owned 3 pair of Hedgehogs over the years. I'm middle aged athletic and my knees and back feel the years of abuse. About the shoes: first off, no shoe is perfect , I always purchase a better insole and the laces tend to wear out and that's the bad. That said...I wear my Hedgehogs whenever I can because when I do the pain goes away, simple as that. I'm no expert but I can only surmise that it's because of the structure, sole and support, that's my best guess. What I do know for certain is that the Hedgehog is light weight, water resistant, tough shoe that looks good on the street and are off-road friendly. In my honest opinion, the Hedgehog is the enduro motor cycle of shoes and I wear them as much as possible.

This shoe is quite durable and well made but depending on your foot bone structure you might need to put a certain kind of insole into it. other than that, it's a great product. Love the color combo i got. I'm a bigger guy so my shoes need quite a bit of support so my experience may differ from lighter individuals.

I got these shoes for the purpose of hiking, but I like them so much that I've been wearing them to the dog park and out on the town too! I like the low-cut design because they are casual enough for walking my dog, but sturdy enough for a good day hike. They are quite stiff at first and it look me a week or so to break them in a bit. Now that they have loosened up, I can wear them on an all day excursion with ease. The Vibram sole is a major advantage over similar hiking shoes, and the GTX membrane is icing on the cake. I found them to be true to size.

I ordered these for my husband since his old hiking shoes were worn down and we were about to go hiking in Maine. He'd never worn this brand before, but after reading the positive reviews, I felt like this shoe would meet his needs. The first time he wore them was on a five mile hike through quite hilly/mountainous terrain and these shoes were just right! They grip and grab slippery boulders going uphill and helped him keep his traction and momentum while trekking back downhill. These are a WIN :-)

The only down side to this shoe is the laces. If only they had theclick system like a fewyears ago or the pull to tighten, they would be the best shoes ever. Superb grip Currently wearing them full time since I'm in crutches and need grip. Fit a bit small for me so I have to order up 1 size.

I used this to go on small hikes and they do amazing, 6 or 7 miles is what I usually do, water and mud means nothing and at the end of the day I do wash them in the machine and they do great nothing happens to them. The materials are truly amazing and really strong. Very comfortable while just standing, good back support.

I have worn this model of North Face shoes for years. I don't use them for hiking per say but as an everyday shoe. The newer model with the Vibram sole has been a major improvement in the longevity of the sole. The waterproofness of the Gortex membrane lasts for most of the life of the shoe. The shoe is not as breathable as an unlined shoe but does not present any issues for me. I have used my "worn out" pair for biking and fishing for the most part , and the liner stays intact and waterproof. Even with the Vibram sole, don't expect a solid grip on smooth boulders or loose rock. This would be an ok shoe for trail use but would want something different for offtrail scrambling over loose rock or boulders. As an everyday shoe, they last for a very long time and will keep your feet dry.

Comfortable light hiking shoe.

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
Fit:

I purchased these as a gift and he loves them. Super comfortable and rugged. They are a versatile hiking shoe good for established trails and streamline enough for running errands around town. The laces are a perfect short-medium length and not too long that they flop around.

As Expected

A quality hiking shoe at a reasonable cost. I ended up buying them for light hikes, rainy concerts, and yard work. Feet stay dry and comfortable even through hours on my feet.
