Why We Like The North Face Chakal Jacket

Whether we're in the park or the backcountry, The North Face's Chakal Jacket keeps us primed and throwing shapes without restriction. The body-mapped insulation holds in heat as we wait to drop, while the stretch fabrication follows our every move. On climbs and warmer days, we open the underarm vents to turn up the air. And when fresh snow starts to fall, we cinch the hood over our helmet and let the waterproof build shake off the flakes.

Great quality and function!

Worked great , dry and warm! Only needed a thermo-shirt and t-shirt underneath to keep warm. Very happy.

Great jacket!

Fits perfectly. Love the style. Very warm on 30 below days skiing at Sunday River, Maine-only needed 1 baseline underneath. But also comfortable on warmer days

Replacement for a 20yo TNF and it's worth it!

Great jacket! Fits great on the body and arms, 6'3" 215# in an XL. The zippers are smooth and seem to be well done to bring waterproofing. Pockets are well placed , only downer is the left sleeve pocket is smaller than on my last TNF coat so a phone doesn't fit. This was a replacement for a 20 year old TNF coat, so I was apprehensive of switching because the old one was reliable and great - only added two zippers in 20yrs otherwise solid. Upgraded because waterproofing was done (could've sprayed I know) and a shoulder was starting to show significant wear. This new one is significantly lighter which made me concerned with the warmth. To my total surprise technology over the last 20yrs has improved and lighter can still be warm.

No

I loved the feel of this coat when I tried it on in the store. I needed a coat asap because the zipper failed a few days before on my last coat and I was desperate are 4 degree weather was forecast this week. I bought the jacket despite my apprehension regarding the snap on hood. That night I took my pup out to pee, winds were 20 mph and went right through the spaces between the hood snaps. Cold wind on my neck. Super bad design.

Amazing Jacket

I bought this jacket for the winter time since it gets cold where I live and it's amazing. The quality is perfect and the jacket is overall great. It keeps me warm in the cold weather.

Not as good as GoreTex, but acceptable

I was concerned about staying dry so I took my new Chakal and gave it a 5 minute shower test full blast. The outer skin absorbed water but it did not penetrate to the inside of the jacket. Zippers are waterproof and the pockets remained dry. My t-shirt was dry but the jacket did gain 1 pound in weight. I would prefer a DWR treatment so water beaded and rolled off, but it looks like the jacket will handle wet snow or rain. It does have great features and meets all my other requirements for a ski parka.

I would buy this product again and again

Used this jacket in 35° weather, and 5° weather with wind, and it was perfect in both days, the vents help a lot and when they are all closed you stay totally warm no matter the conditions
