    Safety third.

You're probably not thinking about how your Smith Women's Vantage MIPS Helmet looks, feels, or protects your head when you're skiing pow, but you can rest assured that it does all three damn well. For starters, Smith equipped this helmet with a Multi-directional Impact Protection System, more commonly known as MIPS, that uses a thin inner layer that rotates ever so slightly in order to disperse impacts across the whole helmet instead of the point of contact.

MIPS isn't the only innovative technology that makes the Vantage one of the best helmets on the market. Its Hybrid SL shell places bombshell ABS on top and lightweight, in-mold PC around the sides for a low-profile fit. Aerocore construction uses specialized Koroyd foam for improved airflow, ventilation, impact-resistance, and fog-free vision. Boa's FS360 adjustable system has a wrap-around halo design for a truly secure fit. AirEvac 2 ventilation uses a low-profile dual regulation that lets you open and close the front half, back half, or all 21 vents for optimized climate control. The goggle lock and Snapfit SL2 ear pads are removable, and you can insert Skullcandy audio systems into the ear pads for a musical fiesta in terrain parks and powder-filled bowls.

I bought this helmet for my wife for christmas, and she has really enjoyed this helmet. The adjustable boa fit is easy to adjust with a single hand. The MIPS keeps her head protected and the helmet is super light and breathable with 2 vent controls. Her only complaint has been the color choices. She went with black but would of preferred a more vibrant color.

    Go MIPS or go home.

A buddy of mine just bonked his head so hard he couldn't remember his wife. His lack of remembering reminded me to write a description for this helmet. He had a similar MIPS helmet, and his concussion would have been so bad that he would have forgotten his name if he didn't have MIPS in his helmet.

      Don't think just buy!

I ordered medium my hat size measured 55.8cm so I was unsure whether to get small or medium. The medium fit perfect with no adjusting! Super lightweight and comfy on. Can't wait to try it on the slopes.

      Great fit and nice features

I got this helmet for my wife to replace an older Giro helmet that got towards the end of it's life last season. She really likes the BOA adjustment system - the last time we shopped for helmets she had a hard time finding a Smith helmet that fit, but the newer BOA system really solved that problem. The BOA adjustment does a much better job at wrapping around the whole head than just about any other adjustment system out there.

In addition to the great fit, the vents are very easy to use and provide a great array of options for ventilation. Unlike most helmets, the vent covers are split into two sections, so you can have the front and back of the helmet open or closed independently of each other.

      Take advantage of the Vantage.

After having realized that my ski helmet was close to 10 years old, I decided it was probably time to get a new helmet. Since my melon is pretty much the most important thing on my body, I was pretty dead set on buying a helmet that had MIPS and had heard really terrific things about Smith's offerings, so I had a little bit of tunnel vision going into this. That being said - initially I was waffling between the Smith Compas MIPS and the Vantage MIPS, mostly on account of the price tag. At first glance, the Compass and the Vantage a pretty similar but there's some small but stark difference between the two. For starters, the Vantage is equipped with the BOA fit system which secures your head from an allover standpoint rather than pinching it at the nape of your neck. In addition to its 21 vents and AirEvac system, the Vantage has a climate-control regulator which is pretty dang convenient when you need a little extra breathability. And while at first glance, the design of the Compas vs. the Vantage may not be noticeable, I really appreciated the slim and sleek silhouette of the Vantage. Plus the little visor is quite nice. The plush liner is removable and washable, which is nice if you've got a sweaty dome. And the helmet-goggle integration is seamless with my Smith Women's IO goggles.

As for size, my melon was right inbetween a small and a medium, but I went with the medium to avoid pinching and potential headaches. I found that measuring my head in centimeters gave me a more accurate read on how big my melon was and ultimately what size to choose. In regards to performance, the Vantage is flawless. To say the least, it's incredibly comfortable, as well as SUPER lightweight and it's SUPER easy to adjust with a mitten'ed hand (e.g. opening/closing the vents, the Boa fit system). Not to mention, I took a pretty substantial digger while wearing it the other day and while the rest of my body got rocked, my head was totally fine. So, I'm pretty stoked on this helmet to say the least.

      Take advantage of the Vantage.

Great fit and very light. Works well with iO/S goggles. I get cold easy, being able to close the vents on cold days really helps. MIPS is just the cherry on top. Glad I finally upgraded!
