    Setting new standards.

The Smith Vantage MIPS Helmet offers the ultimate in ski- and snowboard-worthy protection, style, and comfort, so you can stay safe on the slopes while looking and feeling good. Between the lightweight feel, superior safety technology, and customizable fit and ventilation, there's no excuse not to rock one.

The Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) allows a small rotation of the outer shell relative to the liner when your head hits at an angle in order to decrease rotational forces, reducing potential damage to your brain. Smith also engineered the Vantage MIPS with Aerocore construction, which combines lightweight EPS with revolutionary Koroyd material. This unique material absorbs more impact than traditional foams while simultaneously improving breathability and reducing weight and bulk.

AirVac 2 ventilation features twenty-one vents that can be fully opened on warm spring days, partially closed when temps drop, or completely shut in the middle of a blizzard. The Boa FS360 fit system allows you to quickly and easily dial in the perfect fit. Snapfit S12 ear pads can be removed in warmer weather, and they're also audio-compatible with a (sold separately) Skullcandy audio system.

    Medium was too snug

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I wear a 7 3/8" fitted baseball cap which is within the fit range on an adult medium helmet in this model. But it was too tight to be comfortable when I ordered it. Unfortunately there were none available in Large for the color I wanted, so I returned for a refund. Seemed like a great helmet, but I just thought I'd provide my thoughts on the fit. Might be helpful to someone similarly situated where you've got a size that teeters on Medium and Large.

    Upgraded to the MIPS Vantage

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Loved my old Vantage. Bought this one for the added benefit of the MIPS.

Size seems a little bit tighter than the non MIPS but that could also be because the old one has been packed out abit. Not an issue, just loosened the boa system a bit more. If you are on the edge with the non MIPS between L and XL, i would go XL. Better yet, try it on before buying it if you are on the edge in sizing.

Overall, the Vantage from Smith continues to be a perfect fit for me.

One For My Sister, One For Me

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Protect your powder-craving brain bucket with this helmet. Really comfortable and I love that it has two separate ventilation open/close options - very useful in variable conditions.

    Tomahawk protection

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

While heliskiing, I hit a hidden rock and tomahawked 1000’ down a 50 degree Alaskan wall last week...I tumbled end over end like a ragdoll at least 25 times (the guides said they counted the holes left by my head and feet as I tumbled, and they stopped counting at 50) broken bones, but jacked up my shoulder, both knees, and wrist...also have a big bruise on top and back of my head. This helmet saved me from a severe head injury or death. Thanks Smith!

    The best

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This helmet is my go-to. I've used several helmets but keep coming back to this one year after year. It's perfect in my eyes, super comfortable, sleek, and has all the features I need. The ventilation system makes the helmet usable in any temperature. Drop a couple bluetooth speakers in the ear pockets and you're set for the season!

    Protect the Noggin

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After 8 years of wearing the same old Smith helmet, i finally decided to upgrade. This helmet fits great and looks even better. Thankfully i have yet **knock on wood** to test its head protection capabilities, but i trust Smith and their reputation to do so.

    Best Helmet On The Market

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Picked this up to replace my old helmet which made my head look enormous! I don;t have that problem with the Vantage. Great venting, sleek look, and maximum protection with MIPS tech for rotational impacts.

    Tight Lid!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Got this helmet as a gift for my Father as he skis often and works as a Mountain host at Timberline on Mt Hood. He loves that it's breathable and keeps while keeping his head warm. He has a bigger head and the boa adjustments make it fit perfectly. I love knowing that he has just a little more protection because you never know when you might need it.

    Well thought out

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It is very apparent that Smith really did their homework when designing this helmet. There's a ton of features, but none of it is fluff. Every bit of the helmet serves a specific function and nothing more. From the vents to the boa system everything functions as it should. Really quite pleased with this helmet. Additionally, these things integrate wonderfully with any smith goggle.

    I Love this Helmet!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It fits so comfortably, it is warm, and the vent system works really well. I have never been too cold or too hot in this helmet. It works really well with Smith goggles, no gap, and no pushing your goggles down on your nose, as with some other helmets.

    Protects Your Dome. Looks Cool.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great all around helmet. I have always used Smith goggles and the interface with the Vantage is seamless. Fit is true to size. Venting is crucial on warm spring days.

    Protect your brain

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

There are moments, very embarrassing moments, where cliff dropping doesnt go as planned. Maybe your tips caught a rock, a branch grabbed your leg, or you just lost your footing and the next thing you know youre doing a low velocity somersault off straight off the cliff. Its times like these where you will greatly appreciate wearing a helmet, especially when you inspect the helmet afterward and see many many dents.

Ive had my own embarrassing moments with this helmet already, and I am very thankful it's superb construction. The cool style and the helmet vents are great bonuses as well.

    Smith always delivers

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this helmet as a gift for my sister. She's pretty small, only 5'2" so I went with a size small in this helmet and it fit perfect! Not too loose or tight and worked perfect with her Oakley goggles. The little switch to open and close the vents is easy to use even with mittens too which is always a nice touch.

    Bought/Wrong Size - Excellent

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Per some of the reviews below, I would highly recommend trying any helmet on prior to purchase. Even more so, try the helmet on with the goggles you plan on wearing to make sure they fit well together.
This specific purchase I returned prior to use because the helmet was slightly too small/tight.
However, you can get a feel for the quality of an item quickly, especially for such a reputable brand like Smith and this is an excellent, high end choice for anybody. Just make sure to try it on.
*Edit: Collin B asked if I thought these helmets ran small and I accidentally deleted the whole review before responding. To me, I cannot entirely say that these run small, as I was right on the cusp of needing to size up according to the size chart. So depending on where you land on the size chart in relation to a size variance (S, M , L, XL, etc) should help you decide to size up or not. Keep in mind, hair thickness and length, if you wear a beanie or a balaclava or pull a buff up over the back of your head and over the ears when it's cold (which I do often) can and will all play a role in deciding which size to choose. The boa system really helps adjusting the tightness as well, depending where you land on the size spectrum. I hope this helps.

    Unanswered Question

will this helmet work with other audio systems like outdoor tech chips 2.0 or only skull candy audio?

I am interested in this this helmet but I'm concerned about the fit based on the reviews here. I'm a medium (55-59cm) in a older vintage smith helmet without MIPS technology. My head measures around 57-58cm. Would you recommend a medium or large for this helmet? Thank you!

    Hi Stephen,

I have this helmet in a Large and my head is 7 3/8 (58-59cm) and it fits me great, especially when I'm wearing a balaclava. The amount of adjustability on this helmet is pretty good so if I were you I would go with the medium in this case.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

I have this helmet...great fit and style. Just wondering where I can get that Backcountry face mask in the photos? Checked the backcountry site but could not find??

Does the MIPS only allow one crash all the tubes break or does it stay completely function after a crash.

Depends how bad the crash. I hit a tree with my Smith bike helmet with Koroyd - all the tubes collapsed at the point of impact, but stayed intact around the rest of the helmet. The foam shell did not crack either - just collapsed a bit. Will be replacing it soon, but for now I feel it still offers a good deal of protection

    to whom it may concern,

will you be offering different colors of this helmet at some point and if so any ideas as to when? thanks

The Vantage MIPS will be available in Gunmetal, Mustard and White. The new colors should be arriving in the next week or two. If you are interested in a specific size/color let me know and I will gladly put one on hold for you.
