    Midweight Bottom

The SmartWool Women's Midweight Bottom has done a great job of keeping you warm and comfortable all day under your ski pants, so why put it away when the lifts close? It makes a fantastic après-ski legging when paired with a skirt (down skirt, perhaps?) and your fun, furry winter boots. In this new guise, you can enjoy the cozy merino wool into the wee hours, before you get up and do it all again the next day. Good thing wool has natural anti-odor properties, since it looks like this bottom is going to be getting a lot of use this vacation.

    • Soft merino midweight bottoms for insulation in cold weather
    • Merino wool wicks moisture and naturally inhibits odor
    • Wide waistband is comfortable and flattering
    • Flatlock seams go easy on your skin
    • UPF 50 protection blocks the sun before it can fry your skin
    • Item #SWL0822

    Great Legging!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 230lbs

I was given these leggings as a gift and love them! They fit great and are very warm and cozy! Also great for layering on colder days/adventures, but often times I just wear them by themselves as casual wear.

    Soft and Warm

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 130lbs

Bought this for my sister in law. She reports it fits perfectly under ski pants and with ski socks and boots. Fit is true to size, length is above the ankle. Super comfortable and can wear many times without needing to wash!

Not the pant I was hoping it would be

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 125lbs

After reading many reviews and doing my research on baselayers to keep me warm in the cold Michigan winters, I settled on these Smartwool bottoms (for both me and my husband).
We've both worn then for two months now, and are disappointed. They stretch out too easily; the material pills; and the waistband, especially on the women's bottoms, gets twisted and is difficult to straighten out.
I was hoping that the price tag on these would mean top-quality, but unfortunately, that wasn't my experience. I'll keep wearing them, as they do a good job insulating, but next time I'll try another brand.

    Wanted to love..

    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 133lbs

I wore these one day skiing and they streched out and started to pile all over the pants. I wanted to love, but unfortunately for the price they weren't what I was hoping for.

    Cute but itchy

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size

I wanted to love these so much but after wearing them for 30 minutes I was itching so bad! They are very cute and soft and are probably great if you don't react poorly to wool. I had to send them back.

Wish I had read previous reviews!!

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 110lbs

The reviews about the ridiculous crotch situation are completely accurate. There is excess material and no gusset, which makes for a ridiculously exaggerated camel toe situation. How embarrassing. Love the color and fabric, but would not be able to wear these in public.

    Christmas Gift for my Mom

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 140lbs

This is what she said: Love the weight and feel of the fabric. The waist is a little tighter than I would like it and the rest stretches out a bit more than I would like. Would order again!

    Great Base Layer

My girlfriend loves these bottoms. Great quality material and super stretchy. keep her warm. Smartwool quality!

    Baselayers for days

    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 130lbs

I'm normally a Patagonia Capilene underlayer kind of girl but I tried these along with the matching top and was pleasantly surprised. I agree they are a little tight in the hip crotch area but overall the quality is there and I love them.

Disappointed with the fit and material

I bought this item based on the reviews. People raved about the material being soft and not itchy. The item is soft to tough with the hands, however once the item is on it was itchy. The crotch area was also too big. I returned the item and decided to go with something else instead for my trek.

      Too tight through crotch

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Height: 5'3"
      • Weight: 115lbs

Was shopping for base layer for all-day wear during Antarctic expedition, comfort was highest concern. This item was initially comfortable, but the wide, tight waistband gradually slipped upward & pulled the crotch seam tight against my body, which I found very uncomfortable, so I returned it after 1 day of wear.

      Long lasting long underwear!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

I just bought my second pair of these base layer bottoms because I loved my first pair so much. My first pair lasted me through four years of hard use (130+ days of use in the field/back country). Overtime, they did loosen up and got runs in the fabric that eventually turned into holes. Hence why I needed a new pair. Very comfy (love the flat waistband), great for camp layers and sleeping. I would expect them to wear out faster if used in more active situations such as skiing or hiking. Overall, warm and useful layer.

      Comfy

Great bottoms. I get cold so I usually throw fleece leggings overtop but the material is breathable so if I get hot I don't overheat. Most wool that I've purchase in the past is itchy but that is not the case with this baselayer. Super comfy to lounge in or throw a skirt over top and head out.

        Camel toe

        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'2"

No gusset , even with fitting lose they push right up into my crotch. compared to other brands in this price range they are gusseted

        Gets the job done

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
        • Fit: Runs large
        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'9"
        • Weight: 140lbs

I bought this for my sister. Here's what she had to say.
"I've used them twice so far, once sleeping while camping and once snowboarding. Kept me very warm while sleeping as well as while snowboarding, but it wasn't too cold of a day on the mountain. Soft, yet still itches a little bit, but much better than traditional wool. I would still purchase again but I wish I would have gotten a size smaller, the material stretches quite a bit."

        Great Base Layer

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

        • Size Bought: Medium
        • Height: 5'10"
        • Weight: 140lbs

After Patagonia changed the fit and composition of their Capaline base layer line, I was in search of a replacement. The pants fit well around the waist and butt, stretching without slipping or riding up. I am 5'10" and these pants, like most other base layers, are a bit shorter than I would prefer, hitting about 2" above my ankle. However, I wear these with ski or crew socks, so the length isn't much of an issue. I have worn them AT/nordic/cross country skiing. They also work great as pajamas during cold weather camping.

        Too binding in lower torso

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: S
        • Height: 5'3"
        • Weight: 115lbs

Whereas the fabric is great, the wide waistband is tight. I found it pulled up the body of the garment so that the seam between the legs became too tight through the crotch--unacceptable. So I returned. I found another maker has a style with a gusset in the crotch, similar to womens briefs, very comfortable.

        Best Base Layer

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size

I love SmartWool products. I find them all to be comfortable, durable, breathable, and attractive. These bottoms are fantastic as a base layer for skiing or to use while camping. They're not itchy.

is the aubergine heather more of a dark red or a purple?
