I was a bit unconvinced by "boiled merino wool" as a fabric. But it's great. As a knit it's not 100% wind stopping but it's pretty good. I've used it shoveling snow at 18F and windy. The gusts of wind were a bit noticeable but my head stayed warm and dry. When I got inside I was surprised to find the cap was covered in snow and a bit wet but it completely protected my head. As to it being snug- I wear a 59-cm hat (slightly larger as I have to stretch them a tad) and it is snug but not tight on me. It also loosened up just a tad or I just got used to it. I would NOT classify it as tight for a beanie/watch-cap which are supposed to be snug.
