    Vertical versatility.

Singing Rock made the Men's Garnet Harness versatile for the well-rounded ice, sport, and trad climber. Its ergonomic construction minimizes weight and maximizes comfort with just enough padding and breathable, abrasion-resistant fabrics for a long-lasting performance. Singing Rock's BMI adjustment secures the tabs regardless of how tight or loose the harness hangs. There are self-locking, stainless steel Rock&Lock buckles at the waist and each leg loop to accommodate summer or winter attire. The Garnet also features four braided gear loops, a rear haul loop, and slots for Porter ice clippers.

    Nice All Arounder

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I needed to get a new harness for my outdoor climbing as my old BD was getting worn a bit, and this was on sale post Thanksgiving. I have had a chance to try it out for one trad day in Josh thus far, and I liked it. The gear loops are ample, though they sit a little further back than the BD it is replacing. I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I suspect that I will get used to it and like them further back, as they are less likely to get in the way, but time will tell.

I have a 34" waist and bought a large, and the padding does not quite reach when the harness is sinched down. Again, not a big deal, but it is what it is. The padding is decent. I am not sure I would want this as my big wall rig, but I don't do multi-day assaults, and the passing is about par with what it is replacing.

The buckles are interesting. At first glance, they seem tinny and unsubstantial. I assume that they are as beefy as they need to be, so I will trust the engineers and testers on the strength rating. They have an interesting feature that can best be described as a quick release. Pull a bite through, and then you can slide the center pin down and the buckle just undoes itself. When on and cinched, it is perfectly secure, so I am not worried about strength. As a climber, it is not a feature I care much about, but if I were ski mountaineering, I think it would be awesome. In short, I can undo all three buckles completely and very easily put the harness on or take it off without ever taking either foot off the ground. A nice feature if you need it.
