G3 guide pack
It's a great backpack and is fully waterproof.i wish the inside main compartment was lined with a lighter color as it can be hard to find small items in the larger dark area.

Was a bit bigger than I expected but it's great for hiking into spots with more fish and less people,I can carry all the gear I need, lunch, extra clothes and small cooking stove. I also used it as my carry-on bag for a recent fishing trip.

Weak stitching on overtop strap, the rest seems good though.
I've had two of the older style of these bags for several years and I took them everywhere. I backpacked Costa Rica, Mexico, Belize, and swam tropical rivers with them on my back, they were incredible but finally wore out. This new version has a few design flaws. The over the top strap is poorly designed. I went to take the tag off (brand new) and in doing so, it ripped the strap stitching right out of the bag rendering the strap on the front, the hook strap from the backside, and the weak fabric for the strap all useless. I'll probably just cut those straps off as the rest of the bag seems up to Simms usual impeccable standards.

Simms G3 bag
Love this bag so much that I bought my wife one. We are heading out west to Idaho, Wyoming, Montana in two weeks. Really looking forward to this trip with our new bags. We will be bringing our packrafts along to hit some lakes and rivers. And of course fly fishing. These bags will be perfect for what we will be doing.

Must have a backpack
Great pack keeps everything dry weather year out in the bush or throwing it on the boat. Excellent construction. It’s my go to pack. Captain Ross.

After a season of use I feel like I can give an honest review of this bag. As far as the bag itself is concerned, it is just what I wanted:a light weight, easy access, waterproof pack with padded hip straps. It’s been a great pack for guiding. My only issues all involve the strapping systems. The shoulder straps are too short. In order to actually be able to use the forceps holder, i end up with the waist straps around my stomach (which eliminates the goal of transferring pack weight to hips). Also, don’t care for straps on the sides; the vertical nature doesn’t let you strap in water bottles or rod tubes.

Great pack for high capacity and high rainfall situations.
I just got this backpack and gave it a good test in some very heavy rain in Cordova, Alaska, but in the future will use it in rainy western Washington weather, and Alaska. Overall, it performed very well. The roll-top kept things inside dry, and the capacity is impressive. It is not too heavy when empty, and rode well on my back. I only have two fairly minor criticisms, and perhaps Simms can make some adjustments. First, while there are two nice holders for water bottles, there does not seem to be a good way to use them for rod holders. The strap on the side goes vertically rather than horizontally, as would be needed. Second, the single strap that goes over the roll-top in the back does not have a nice, easy two-way two-pronged clip for closure, as most of the bag straps do. Rather, it has a more awkward plastic hook that has to be fitted into a tight loop. Not clear to me why that is there. But overall, great capacity, and well designed, with lots of exterior pockets and such.

Just the right amount of space that will carry what you need and not overload with weight straps and waist belt are very comfortable for hiking up and down the river and fishing with it on your back
