Why We Like The Salomon XA Pro 3D V9 Wide Trail Running Shoe

Built for stability and foot protection, the Salomon XA Pro 3D V9 trail running shoe is a perennial best-seller for those of us who take on tough trails and conquer them. The advanced 3D chassis adds stability and midfoot support while the durable mesh uppers and reinforced toe cap provide all-around protection for our feet. We like the Quicklace system for a snug and supportive fit that also eliminates annoying stops to re-tie or double-knot our laces. The XA Pro is designed to be a tough trail running shoe, but it also has crossover appeal for hikers, too, thanks to its support and protection.

This is the wide version for those of us who want more room in the forefoot and toe box.

Great shoes, well constructed, very comfortable

I have purchased many pair of these types of Salomon shoes throughout the years and been very satisfied with each pair. I have a wide foot so please be aware that the regular sizes are tight, so order wide if you want the extra room.

Best boot for serious rock trails

I'm 68 and hike Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, AZ every day for well over twelve years straight. I hike it twice, my FitBit showing a total of 2400' gained and 6.5 miles. The rock trail has destroyed or delaminated every lesser brand. The XA Pro doesn't just hold up better than any other boot, it also sticks better to the 70+ degree angles and sharp exposed edges. The Sense Ride 5 sticks just as well, and I wear those on lighter trails, but Camelback has many points where squeezing your toes into crevices is required and the XA Pro has thicker sides and toes. A group of regulars convenes for sunrise every morning. I've converted most of them to this great hiking shoe. I've torn up fifteen pairs of other brands before coming back to the XA Pro. Since finding them, I've happily worn out over thirty pairs of XA Pros. There is no better boot for desert hiking.

Worst ever

Worst ever - after 15-20 years of Salomon trail shoes (mostly XA) Broke first time out of the box - hadn’t even got out of the house. “Webbing” (?) loops not stitched / caught into the main shoe outer fabric

Wide is not wide enough

After hearing how comfortable Solomon’s are I gave them a shot. Extremely disappointed on how narrow they were.

A design flaw that appears to have caught up to me

I have worn these for several years. About six months ago, I started to develop issues with both of my big toes, especially on my right foot. I recently visited with a DPM (podiatrist) and brought these shoes along with me. I told him how comfortable they were and how much I loved the durability and speed laces. He zeroed in on the fact that the lacing originates right on top of the portion of the toe box where my two big toes were located. Sad to say, I may be switching over to a Merrell shoe.

Best for rough terrain

I've hiked Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, AZ USA every day for well over a decade (6 miles, 2,400 ft elevation). It's the toughest urban hike in America (in the middle of the city). The terrain is all granite, rough, and it shreds shoes like a meat grinder. I've tried many brands and styles and ONLY the XA PRO 3D holds up with both grip on the steep rocks and long-lasting tread. I recommend them to everyone! Analysis: Merrills hold up but don't grip as well; I've seen Brooks delaminate in less than 100 miles; Hoka and La Sportiva don't hold up.

Excellent shoe for walking.

I've had this shoe quite a while with no problems. It is a wide, which works well for my feet. It is comfortable and I like the lacing system.

My love affair with Solomon

It all started in 2017, the first time I started hiking on Pacific Crest Trail. After 1500 miles on the PCT: not a single blister! And when everyone was replacing their shoes after 400-500 miles, I only needed 2 pairs. My Solomons were lasting twice as long as other manufacturers shoes. Since 2017, I have hiked in Solomons thousands and thousands of miles: same results: no blisters! I love my Solomon’s !

Big toe desroyer

Whoever designed and approved the lace over the big toe, which creates a hard surface inside the shoe right on top of toe, should be placed in a two week suspension.

Wider toe box

I have had several pairs of Salomon shoes. The toe box was always too narrow. These wide sizes are perfect for my foot. I’m glad you you are making sizes that I can wear. Your shoes are excellent. Thank you
