Why We Like The Salomon XA Pro 3D V9 Wide Gore-Tex Trail Running Shoe

Protection on the trail is at a premium, so we recommend the XA Pro 3D V9 Wide GORE-TEX Trail Running Shoe from Salomon. Wide enough for bigger-footed runners, and tough enough to take on the gnarliest trails, this shoe features Salomon's Advanced 3D chassis for stability and motion control while also protecting our feet with sturdy synthetic uppers and a reinforced toe cap. That gives us a stable and durable base while the Contagrip outsole provides us reliable grip on rocks and mixed terrain. For those of us who aren't afraid of sloppy trails or colder weather, this version of the XA Pro features a GORE-TEX membrane for premium weather protection.

  • Wide version of a classic trail runner with robust protection
  • Advanced 3D chassis for lateral stability and foot support
  • GORE-TEX membrane provides durable and breathable waterproofing
  • 11mm drop for heel strikers and mid-foot strikers
  • Moderate cushioning features better trail feel
  • Quicklaces provide fast and secure lacing

terrible experience for an expensive shoe

I bought this pair of shies on Feb.21, 2024. Wear it quite often. Now I discovered the right shoes front inside has a crack on it. Water gets in. I need to know if this it still under warranty only three months of use.

Excellent Wide Trail Show

Sturdy trail shoe with a wide forefoot and toe box. Shoe is stiff along all axis. Good insert padding. Only drawback is a wide heel which I have found common in Salomon shoes at least back to the 90s.

Much narrower than the V8

Own a pair of the XA Pro 3D V8 in a wide fit and they are significantly wider than these. Don't know why Salomon have produced a wide fit shoe which is so much narrower than previous versions. Surely the whole point of a wide fit version is to accommodate a wider foot. Or perhaps I am confused.....

I highly recommend

Hello, my previous Salomon shoes were the same as xa pro. I advise. I had another brand of shoes and the sides were torn. Even though it was a factory defect, they did not replace it. I congratulate and thank Salomon.

Great hiking shoes

These are true to size with the wide version. Vary light weight and comfortable shoes. I like the lacing zipper and the design

Excellent, very comfortable and durable

Bought similar shoe from Salomon before, they are very comfortable to walk in regardless of terrain, really good grip and the Gore-Tex is worthwhile having, especially when its wet. I'd certainly recommend, but I always have to get the wide fit size 10, despite have a narrow size 9 foot.

Insoles are too thin

Insoles are too thin to insulate bottom of my feet from feeling the tread pattern when walking on hard surfaces. Shoes need more insulation between tread and insole like the X Ultra 04 hiking shoes that I previously owned.

The best

I bought wide fit for trekking 3 weeks ago. I had them on for a couple of mountains. Best shoes ever. Perfectly fit and very comfortable. Feels like my feet are in a soft bag.

Awesome lacing. Not a true 2E.

I bought the V9 because I wanted a waterproof trail shoe for my true 2E feet. Because I had tried many shoes without satisfaction (Icebug and all of REI's offerings), I was willing to risk the V9 in spite of it having a quick-lacing system. After five months, this is what I have learned: ++ The Quicklace is superb! I just pull (on the handle) and tuck (into the tongue pouch). I have also not experienced the dreaded big toe pressure (where the lace crosses above the big toe) that others have reported with other quick-lacing designs. + Good balance between protection and feedback from the outer sole - Contagrip is so-so on wet wood/roots - Heel fit is modest. The sensation is of my heels pulling out a mm or two before every step. I'm used to a near-perfect fit with my other trail shoes. The V9's heel fit reminds me of the fit with hiking boots, but slightly better. I suspect that the close fit in the forefoot (see the next section) exacerbates the sensation that my heels are pulling out. -- This is not a 2E out of the box. I'd rate it a does-not-exist 1E. Even though I expect any new shoe's upper to stretch to fit, my other 2Es (Nike and New Balance) conformed more closely to my feet out of the box. I don't regret buying the V9. It certainly is the best of all the waterproof 2E shoes I tried. I just hope that it's built to be durable in terms of continuing to be waterproof and that the glued parts stay glued.

A lot of Disc-Golfers love Solomon shoes. Awesome! Water proof!
