From sandy trails to snowy summits.

The Salomon Women's X Ultra 2 GTX Hiking Shoe handles any terrain in any condition so you can get out and stay out. Gore-Tex's Performance Comfort membrane guarantees waterproof, breathable protection for year-round climates, and the SensiFit upper cradles your foot for a stable, precise, and snug fit. Ortholite and two layers of EVA give plenty of cush for day-long adventuring.

Underfoot, the X Ultra 2 GTX features Salomon's Advanced Chassis midsole for stability, foot control, and protection. The protective rubber toe cap protects your foot from rocks, while the mud guard keeps the boot clean after wet-weather excursions. Non-marking ContaGrip rubber helps the sole stick to any surface that you'll find outside.

    simply incredible

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

i used these on a week backpacking trip in the foothills. it rained the first two days and the insides stayed completely dry. my feet stayed comfortable and blister free even after 50 miles of hiking. i wear either size 7.5 or 8 and i went with the 7.5 for these and it was perfect. enough room for my feet, but not too big. overall an incredible shoe.

    These are AWESOME

These were perfect for the WA section of the PCT. They had great traction for their weight, stayed dry without getting hot, and were easy to break in. I did get one blister, but I think it was more of a sock issue. True to size. Easy to get on and off/ adjust . Decent size toe box. I would totally get them again.

    In love

I purchased these as a lighter shoe for day hikes and they do not disappoint. They required no breaking in! The soles are extremely sturdy and even in on hot summer hikes they have been super breathable. The lacing system is really great for when you summit and want to loosen your shoes to give your feet a little break. I bought a half size smaller than normal and that seems to be perfect even with thick wool socks. Highly reccommend!

    Love these!

I had a pair of these shoes and wore them out and loved them so much I got these to replace them! The only difference is that my previous shoes had normal shoelaces, I was interested in the quick pull laces and I like them a lot. They're super convenient and easy to "tie." However one small thing is that there is a plastic piece that goes over the seam of the laces, like where they come together, and that plastic piece now slides around and I'm afraid the laces might break. Overall I love them and I love the bright red color!

Like a dumbass, I bought these shoes right before my 3 week long trek in Nepal. I was living in rural Montana and was finally able to find the perfect shoe just days before leaving. Every trip report about doing the EBC or Three Passes trek tells you NOT to do this.

    Challenge Accepted.

In full disclosure, I got these at a discount because they were a returned good and failed to notice that the sharpie mark covering the size was a 7.5 not an 8.5 as I had thought. Crucial mistake. My feet are a size 9.5 and 8.5. The shoe fit perfectly on my smaller foot but rubbed quite a bit on my heal on the larger foot. This is purely operator error. I think I would have been happy with a size 8.5 to make room for wool sock days.

In spite of all of this, I completed 20 days of trekking at 15,000 unscathed and happy. I carried a 12 kg pack the entire trip and I felt these shoes had great support. They are truly waterproof and squatty potty splatter proof (if you haven't been to Asia, you know what I'm talking about). The color is super fun and matches all of my belongings perfectly. I have a pair of BD trekking poles and they were the same shade of turquoise. Talk about fashion.

I would defintely recommend going a half size down in these shoes so you aren't slipping around in the shoe and giving yourself a blister.

The lacing system is amazing and so easy to use. It did take me a day to figure out the mesh on the tongue is where you tuck the pull tab in for when you're hiking or running!

All around, these are a great option for trekking or running in tough terrain without adding a bunch of weight to your feet. The gortex is what really sells me on this shoe.

    Great supportive shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 9.5

I love these shoes, The easy on - easy off is nice for trail running and slipping on in the middle of the night for a bathroom break. They're perfectly waterproof and very comfortable. I have a narrow heel and a wider toe box and they're great. My only issue is they can rub on the ankle bone if you have protruding ones and you're on uneven ground with short socks on. But not enough for a blister. I am usually a 9.5 and that's what I bought.

I don't know how the lacing system will last, but it works well and is adjustable enough for my fit. I have a super high arch and maybe that's why I'm not finding them fitting so large as other have.

Great hiking shoe, does run large

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large

I've had these shoes for about a year. I've used them often for climbing approaches up fairly difficult terrain, and for some hikes as well.

They do run large---I'm usually about a size 9 and I needed a size 8.5 in these.

    - The slip-on lacing system is really fast and easy on-off
    - Comfortable with just the right amount of flex and support, just where I want it
    - Wide toebox allows your feet to splay and breathe, especially if you have wide feet like me
    - Waterproofing has been great
    - Surprisingly light
    - I don't have particularly sweaty feet, but they have always been breathable/comfortable

    - The lacing system is starting to wear out a little, and gradually slips, needing to be snugged up periodically
    - Still relatively bulky for carrying on your harness while climbing :P

These shoes have many more years/miles in them, and I'd happily buy another pair when they're done.

    Nice gift!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: Runs small

I gave these as gift but these were put to the test right out of the box on a hike in Las Vegas, and they were not only comfortable (no blisters in the 20 plus miles she's hiked with them on so far but they gripped even in somewhat unstable, wet, and muddy conditions. They are appropriately supportive yet they don't feel heavy on your feet. They do run small as I usually wear a 6 1/2 or 7 and she have a size 6 pair that fit perfectly. A great purchase for her since she hikes on different coasts and need something versatile. They are also attractive and easy to clean.

    Couldn't make these work

I wanted to love these as I've loved my various other Salomon's, but I couldn't get a good fit. Based off other reviews regarding sizing, I first bought a half-size down (normally wear 9.5, bought a 9) but couldn't get the laces tight enough to prevent my heels from slipping (I wear Smartwool socks). Returned the 9 and bought an 8.5 where the fit felt great, until I tried them on a six mile hike. They rubbed my pinky toes badly and I felt every rock on the ball of my right foot. Waterproofing was great as expected of Goretex. Sadly returned these and trying something else.

      Automatically Worked

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size

Got these for my girlfriend, and she loves them. They are the perfect amount of support and flexibility for me. Some hiking shoes can be way too tight requiring days of breaking in time, but these were comfortable from day 1. Also really like the speed lacing.

      Solid hiking shoe

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: 8.5

Salomons are my go-to hiking shoes... I keep trying other brands, but I come back to these. I just wore out a pair after 2 years (laces broke, holes on top, etc) so it was time for a new pair. The sizes of these shoes are insane as other people have mentioned, I am a solid 9.5 (nike, lowa, brooks) but had to purchase 8.5 which fit perfectly. I've done multiple long hikes in these they actually feel better than my previous pair, absolutely no blisters. While my feet don't get soaked my feet feel damp whenever I use these when it's snowing or raining, even when wearing wool hiking socks, which is the only reason I can't give them a 5.

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: 9
      • Height: 5'7"

These are just as gorgeous in person. They seemed pretty comfy when I put them on HOWEVER they are NOT true to size at all!! I am solid size 9 in every shoe I've ever owned and this 9 felt more like a 10 or 10.5 so I returned them for a smaller size.

Finally found shoes I can be happy with

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 6

I love shoes but hate big, clunky, heavy ones that leave your feet feeling constricted and suffocating. I have been hiking in Merrell barefoots for the last several years and finally got tired of cold, wet feet this time of year. It was time to grow up and buy some big girl shoes. I went to REI several times to try things on in the store and wasn't thrilled with any color/brand option they offered.

I always am a true size 6, but I have a very skinny ankle. These shoes fit me very well with a thick wool sock but are too loose with a smaller sock. (I can still take them off without loosening the laces, but I doubt others will have this problem unless you have ankles the width of razorblades.)

The inaugural hike was in a river gorge area with waterfalls on a rainy weekend. We hiked in puddles, in several inches of runoff, etc, etc. I had agonized over Gore-Tex versus non Gore-Tex, and I was glad I went for it. My feet were so comfortable, and so warm and dry the whole time. THIS MUST BE WHY PEOPLE LOVE GOOD SHOES! I bought these because I wanted more neutral colors instead of the bright color I found at REI. And I am crazy about the quick lace for camping - easy off and on when you are jumping in and out of the tent. Thanks, Backcountry!

      Runs Large

I've tried Salmon time and time again hoping for a difference each time but I can't get past the clunkiness of the shoe.

I normally wear a size 9 in ALL running/hiking shoes. I leave myself a little room for swelling (I'm between and 8 and 8.5 in flats or dress shoes). I had to get an 8 in these Salomon's and they are still big. I tried them all day, hoping to break them in, but I kept tripping in them. I might be a little on the clumsy side but I've never had an issue with any other hiking shoe. I may just be better suited for a low profile shoe. I want to try the 7.5 but I fear they will be too short. I have narrow, flat feet, so part of the problem is me - I felt like I just couldn't walk safely in them. But it doesn't change the fact that they definitely run LARGE.

Salomon nailed it with style and colors. I love all their shoes every time I look at them, which is why I want them to work so badly! The photos are not deceiving; they are just as awesome in person.

The one time I tried these out for the day, it was raining and my feet stayed dry. I will give them that. Props to making a functional shoe!

The speed laces are pretty great except that I have such flat and narrow feet, that I have a lot of lace left over if I want them tightened down. Luckily, there's a little pocket on the tongue for the extra, although it got pretty annoying trying to shove all the extra up there every time. I ended up just putting the plastic tab part in there after a while. Seemed to be fine with a little lace hanging out; it didn't drag or anything.

Can't say that I was uncomfortable, but I wasn't a huge fan of my feet sliding around inside the shoe- I kept having to tighten them down. Again, I sized down a whole size and had them fitted. They were the right size and I don't think I could go smaller. Just too big for me.

      ALL IN ALL
Amazing shoe - I just can't wear them with narrow and flat flippers.

      Great hiking shoe

I have had many Solomon Trail running shoes. Recently, the 8.5 W I wear have seemed too small. But this model in an 8.5 W are perfectl. I have just hike over 50 miles during a week + in Scotland and England without any sore toes or foot problems. They have been water proof when hiking through boggey trails in Scotland.

      Awesome Shoe

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: 9.5

I just received my hiking shoes this week and already love them. I was debating between these and the Merrell moab ventilators. I ended up ordering these when I tried on the Merrells which are also very comfortable, but allowed my foot to slide forward and causing my toe to hit the front despite sizes or how tight I tied them. My foot fits better in a tennis shoe type hiking shoe rather than a boot style. The Solomons run slightly bigger than the merrell and I could have probably gone with a half size smaller, but with thicker socks it's no problem. I wore them to work to see how long I could stand in them and they were extremely comfortable all day. I can't wait to take them to Colorado. The tread on the bottom is rugged and I'm ready to try them on a 14er! I'll write another review afterwards.
