stiff material

I bought a different 2024 Salomon jacket, excellent features, warm, soft material. This one is very stiff so I was disappointed and returned it. Thanks to Backcountry for allowing return.

pictured is black, but what you're ordering is night sky/cashew. its a dark gray with tan in the large chest pocket areas. I don't care because I'm looking for function. but this one on sale here pictured as black is actually a fugly color combo. fits great. haven't worn it in wet conditions yet. great deal! the hood is HUMONGOUS! but has a drawstring. I can live with it but it's probably the reason this jacket is on sale.

Great long coat

I'm a tall guy (6'5") so having a long coat like this is very nice. This is roomy in a good way so you can layer underneath it but slim fit generally so you don't feel like you're swimming in it. My only quibble is that it has no stretch to it. A little stretch would be nice.

Buy this if you are tall

I am 6'6" and ~250lbs so have difficulties finding high quality gear that fits me. I wanted a 3l jacket that was light-weight, stylish (not looking like I was headed out touring), and that would cover my butt. This thing checked all of the boxes. See the pics for reference of how long it actually is (XXL for reference). Here are some pros and cons: Pros: - Length: more than covers my butt - Zipper: the zipper doesn't go the full length which is perfect for snowboarding. My other tall jackets would either unzip or bunch up. - Pockets: thoughtful and useful storage without being over the top. Appreciate the chest pocket for the phone - Zipper Skirt: not always a standard feature but glad I have the option to remove it - Material: Was worried that it would be ultra stiff like me other 3l gear (saga) but this feels much better. Cons: - Hood: The thing is massive. I get that you can fit a helmet under it but there is excessive space in there. - Collar: The thing is also massive. I like to have my coat zipped up all the way but it feels like it is in the way and restricts head movement. Even unzipped it feels in the way *Disclaimer. I just received the jacket and haven't had a chance to ride in it. These observations were made by trying it on. I primarily ride New Mexico and Colorado so don't fully need the performance of 3l jacket so will not be able to speak to the waterproofness. This came just in time for a big storm at Wolf Creek (143in in the next 10 days!) so I am excited to use it!
