The active chassis maintains mobility and agility when we're hiking fast while also adding lateral support for the tougher trails that test our feet and ankles. This shoe is built for comfort on long-distance hikes and features GORE-TEX waterproofing for soggy conditions and deep, 5mm lugs to tackle mixed terrain.

Great Shoe
Right out of the box great shoe, little to no breaking in. Comfortable. Only complaint is a little snug on my right Achilles.

Too hot!
I have been wearing Salomon’s for over 25 years, one of my favorite brands. Comfortable fit and light, breathable and waterproof. This pair I bought through the website without trying them on. Mistake. My feet were uncomfortably hot, and for the first time my socks and the insoles had a sour smell after walking. I had to remove the insoles after each use and hand wash them. Not convenient while traveling abroad. I would not recommend this shoe for weather above freezing.

Good for long walks
This is my second pair of the same shoe type. I have bought it fearing that the older pair would give away after one year of use. Both are excellent. Comparing to other brands that I used before from other manufacturers, my sense is that Elixir Gore from Salomon is best.

Wonderful hiking shoes
I have had these for a few months now and still very happy with the product. The fit is a bit wider than some of the other Salomon shoes which is good for me. They are very comfortable on long day hikes and have stood up well I terms of durability and still being leak proof. I will definitely buy these again.

I wanted to love these shoes. The fit was great and they felt very cushioned and secure for hiking. However, the heel portion of the shoes seemed to press on my achilles (which were already tender), causing pain before and during my hike. I have the same problem with high top shoes, but didn’t expect it with these. Consequently I returned the shoes.

deceiving toe box
love the overall look and style of the elixir but upon wearing for a week it was uncomfortable. at first i thought maybe I just needed to break them in but even after several wears, it was more and more uncomfortable each day. i tried taking out the insole but did not help either. i even tried replacing it with a thinner insole but that did not help. overall, the fit is horrible and the toe box designed poorly, or perhaps meant for narrow feet!

Not all that
I really tried to like these shoes. Really tried. Bought them for a trip out west to do some desert and mountain treks and general walking around. Halfway through I switched back to my worn out Merrells. For the price the Salomon’s should have carried me effortlessly through hill and dale. Instead my feet never felt comfortable, the shoes hot and crampy. Plus the soles are so darn thick I had to alter my gait to keep from scuffing the ground with each step. I hiked 12 miles over a variety of trails to give them a fair trial. Unfortunately they’ll be relegated to expensive gardening shoes when I finish my vacation.

NOT Waterproof...
I have been wearing these shoes now for around 6 months. The shoes were bought for easy rambles around a woodland area - so no too challenging tarrain. I have worn the shoes in a wide range of conditions including dry and wet weather. I have to say I am dissappointed that the shoes are not Waterproof. I have worn them in damp dew and in rain. When walking in the damp grass they sadly leaked and when subject to rain, they once again left me with damp feet and wet socks. This was disappointing as they are clearly sold as waterproof shoes. The shoes themselves are a reasonable show for basic rambling, but are not well suited to more challenging terrain and I would not recommend them for use in moutain terrain in the UK.
