Why We Like The Salomon Elixir Activ Mid GTX Boot
When hiking or backpacking, having supportive boots helps increase our comfort on the trails. The Salomon Elixir Activ Mid GTX Boot is a mid-height waterproof boot with a durable upper that breathes well and has rock protection. A GORE-TEX waterproof membrane keeps all moisture away while remaining breathable enough to go on long hikes, and the 6-inch height of the boot adds ankle stabilization and protection. The padded tongue and collar add extra comfort and provide a snug fit, while the 5mm lugs and reverse camber-shaped sole outsole down massive amounts of traction and provide a smoother stride.

Excellent in the wet, not so good in the mud
Had these boots for a few weeks now and very pleased with how waterproof they are, also they are extremely comfortable for long walks. Where they do fall down is on mud, it’s like wearing roller skates which is unusual looking at the tread which seams good.

Great hiking boot for the summer!
I purchased this about a month ago and so far I can’t be more pleased. Lightweight, nice toe box and great lugs for steeper terrain.

Not water reistant
Bought them for an Icelandic trip. Very comfortable, could walk with them all day. The issue he is that they are not water proof or resistant.

Lightweight, extremely comfortable out of the box.
I brought these boots 2 weeks before undertaking the National Three Peaks Challenge as my old boots split a seam during training. I only managed 2 short practice hikes before the event, and even so I didn’t get a single blister or hot spot during the challenge, they were extremely comfortable and lightweight. Even with some heavy persistent rain, the boots stayed dry. The only thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is that the inner lining has delaminated slightly in areas of the boot, leading to it rucking up a bit, I have been able to smooth this out again and the boot has remained dry, I just have concerns over the longevity.

Most comfortable hiking shoe!
Right out of the box, these shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn! It feels like you are wearing slippers, though you can still feel the terrain under your feet. They are perfectly waterproof up to the ankle, though on super-hot days, your feet may get a bit warm (the price you pay for Gore-Tex). I have had issues with other Salomon shoes with ripping on the top along the toe line, but these uppers seem softer and less brittle, so I am hoping it won't happen this time. Great for any terrain - quite happy with these shoes!

Super happy so far
Very light and comfortable right out the box. I agree with some of the other reviews: they are snug, making 'em a bit tougher to put on and the laces are kinda wonky if you need to re-lace but neither are significant enough to be a deal breaker. Thus far, have only tried on granite & dirt in dry conditions but grip seems adequate. My only complaint is the lack of waterproof/Gore-tex options. As a desert rat, I don't need or want that in my hiking shoes.

Great shoe, laces are a struggle
I love this shoe! As far as durability, comfort, waterproofing, etc, it's what I e come to expect from Salomon. The only problem I have, and I don't know what causes it exactly, but the flat laces that just go through the slots cut in the shoe makes the laces extremely hard to slip through the holes when putting the shoe on and off. For example, with my X Ultra 4 Mids, I took the laces off the speed hooks, and removed my foot, and the laces were out of the way. Then to put them on, I just slide my foot in, and pull the laces over the speed hooks, and they just slip through perfectly! Whereas with these Elixir Active Mids, even after owning a couple months, it's a pain to get those laces to slip through, and I'll end up avoiding these shoes some days because of that. Other than that though, they're still great shoes! Some of my favorites! The lace thing just makes them a pain sometimes.

Perfect Fit
I've only worn them a dozen times so far and it's like hiking on a cloud. The arch gives great support and the high cut keeps my heels in place. Traction is good but I haven't tried them on wet boulders yet.

Elixir Activ Mid
Great lightweight shoes that need next to no break-in. Size fits a bit smaller compared to other Salomon products, but slightly larger than other brands (Lowa, ASICS, etc). I bought size 12 initially, felt a bit large, bought the 11.5’s and then ended up returning the 11.5’s. I find the heel cup in all Salomon’s a bit tight, but after a couple wears, it loosens up. Salomon’s Contagrip, in my opinion, is the best on the market. All around, very comfortable and lightweight for medium trails.
