When your dog spots a mischievous little squirrel taunting him a few yards ahead, it helps to have the Ruffwear Top Rope Collar so you’re able to quickly secure his leash with the quick-clip Talon Buckle. This tough collar is made from Tubelok webbing with an anodized aluminum V-ring, which feels comfortable around your dog’s neck without allowing him to slip out thanks to its buckle adjustments. The Top Rope features a V-ring that stays aligned at the top of the collar for simple clipping and unclipping while the separate ID tag attachment point with its tag silencer keeps his other tags from ringing together. And since it has integrated reflectivity, it keeps your dog visible in low-light conditions.

    Not good for off-leash dogs.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The collar was lost on the second day out with my trail dog, likely due to the release mechanism on the metal buckle. We've done several thousand miles of trail and never had an issue with his previous collar which cost about half the cost and had a more traditional buckle.

The medium sizing was a good fit for my dog (55 lb Siberian Husky) and it sized tight enough, (2-3 fingers) but I suspect the collar released itself after being snagged on a branch or something while my dog was hitting one of the off-trail creeks that he likes to use as a watering hole.

The leash mechanism for quick access at the top of the collar works great and I imagine it would be a good collar for dogs that are leashed (assuming the metal buckle doesn't release itself while leashed like it seems to have done with mine) but I definitely do not recommend this collar for off-leash dogs.

I did get a decent photo on the first day out with it, shown below, for anybody curious as to how it might look on a dog. Really bummed.. this was our first Ruffwear product and I was stoked to give it a shot as I've heard great things about their products but unfortunately it didn't hold up.

    Not good for off-leash dogs.

    Stylish and functional

The leash clip on top of the collar stays pretty in place allowing for easy clip on and off for going on walks. Really enjoy the tag silencer feature and the reflective trim . The buckle is a little challenging to clip on and off quickly but isn't enough of a hassle to deter me from buying another in the future.

I loved the look of this collar but unfortunately, if you are using an e-collar in combination with this collar, the locking mechanism does not work on this style. Since it is a pinch closure, those pins hit the e-collar and the collar releases when just walking the dog. Be very careful to ensure this is secure if this is something you are buying for your furry friend!

Mine seemingly released itself on the second day out with my dog, and wasn't used in conjunction with anything else. No idea if it released while snagged on a branch or if it just decided to randomly release itself but it's gone. I think it was due to the metal buckle, as I've never had any issues with previous collars and we've done thousands upon thousands of miles. Lame... I wish I would have read through the reviews before purchasing!

      Nice and simple

Ok I really just bought it because it matched the Quick Draw Dog Leash (which I love), but it is a pretty nice collar. The Medium fit my 55lb husky well. The snap is nice, but a bit clunky to me. It doesn't release as smoothly as I'd like. It's not to bulky though in my opinion and I love that the leash attached to a different spot than the tags. The rubber sound stopper on the tag ring is by far my favorite feature because that metal jingling is annoying. I wish there was a second one! Because my dog wears 3 tags. Maybe some replacements are sold?

After reading these reviews it makes me feel that I got a defective collar. I am so disappointed in the collar, specifically the buckle. It always comes undone when my husky puts pressure on it. If anyone has a husky they know that when off leash they like to take off. This has happened numerous times. At first it took a a lot of pressure to get it to unbuckle but over a short period of time the collar would come undone with very little pressure & this is a huge problem with a 70 lb dog that people don't know is friendly. I'm completely disappointed because of the price I paid for this. If it were a 10.00 collar I would just chalk up my losses & move on but the fact that I paid over 30.00 is ridiculous & completely frustrating! My dog is currently in a collar that I paid 9.99 for & it is way stronger then this one. Disappointed is an understatement!

        snazzy collar

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got the green for my Benny Dog and it sure makes him look handsome. I love that there are separate loops for the tags and to hook the leash on. The leash loop can also move along the collar so it wont ever pull weird. I feel like the metal clasp is definitely sturdy and can hold up against Benny when he is determined to go in the opposite direction. My only gripe is that it seems to loosen up fairly easily so i have to keep and eye on it from time to time.

        Best one yet

We've been through leather and rubber, side release and roller buckles...suffice it to say this collar--so far--takes the cake. It seems to itch less (for unknown reasons) and I am very much a fan of the buckle. The little tag silencer is a huge plus, although cant call it her noise maker anymore...

          Good collar

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Overall, this is a good collar. I really like the system for hooking tags and the "anti-jingle" feature. The buckle should be reconsidered, as it the rivets on the back pull the dog's fur and the unbuckling can be a bit of a pain. Overall, 4 stars.

looks great, easy to on easy off.

I have a mini schnauzer, I got the medium size, I should've bought the small size thou you can adjust it to a very small size, it looks great and he hasn't scratch at all, he is very well adapted to it. I love the big hole where you put the leash on, easy in every way.
