Best Purchase For my Pup

My (almost) 7yo, 85# dark-fur pup got really sensitive to heat/ sun the last year. I was v. concerned about his slow down (got full xrays to rule out joint issues) but cooling vest completely turned that around! We're in SoCal with Valley temps, so cautious about when we take them out in the summer, but the Swamp Cooler brought him back to his old self. Yes, the water does evaporate - but I thought about as much as it should. SIZING : he was on the top cusp of Medium so I ordered a Medium as recommended. Large would've been way too big. He's a lean/ tall #85. It should be noted he HATES wearing things and freezes up motionless for several minutes until persuaded with treats to start moving/ forgets he's wearing something (harness/ backpack, etc). Once he understood the purpose of this cooling vest, he has no problem wearing it at all.

I returned this cause it fit pretty big on my Husky. Was really awesome though and just haven't got a new size yet since it's cooling down.

Fido Will Thank You

I have a 2 year old Golden Retriever that runs hot and is not a fan of summer, but that doesn't stop him from playing. He loves when I throw this on him because it instantly cools him down. I was happily surprised that this product actually worked and worked well it did.

A must have for thick-coated dogs

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

My pub has thick, black fur so summer time presents problems when it comes to keeping her cool. We first used it on a hot summer trip to Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio. I dunked the swamp cooler vest in cold water prior to putting it on Kaia so that it would keep her cooler longer. We packed in some miles and she stayed cool. I did make sure to wet the swamp cooler with some extra water I was carrying throughout the day and let her dip into any streams -- you can never be too careful when it comes to overheating! Overall it did it's job -- still keep an eye out overheating, even with this vest on.

My black fur dog loves it

As we get into the summer months, my little pupper has been starting to get really hot with his thick, black Australian Shepherd fur. This has been a game changer to help deflect the heat off of him as well as I can dunk it in water and put it on him to help keep him cool. I ordered him a small and he's a mini, and weights about 35 pounds.

Returned

To be fair, we didn't test this and returned the product. The vest was a little bulky and HUGE. I have a 76 lb. German Sheprador and ordered a L, way too big. She was swimming in it. We are trying out the other cooling vest, heard it's less bulky.

Works Great, Runs Large

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Ditto what everyone else has said. BUT, I think this runs large compared to other Ruffwear items. My 85lb Lab/Shepherd barely fits into the size large harness, so I got this in an XL and it's pretty big on her. I think she tolerates it slightly more because it's a bit baggy, but maybe size down.

Woman's best friend just gets more accessories. This dude love his Swamp cooler vest, I can tell he so much more comfortable. I use this and shoes in the desert, the vest at the dog park, and especially social gatherings. It does get a little dirty, put cleans easily. It does attract fox tails and june grass, but not too bad.

Cool dog, bro!

This doggy core cooler has kept our pup cool as a cucumber. She's just chillin' like a villin in her Tommy Bahama chair on this 97 degree day as if we were vacationing in Main on a brisk April morning (minus the Lobster).

I have a 13 year old German Shorthaired Pointer and he seems to over-heat on our daily walks and runs. The Swamp Cooler Dog Vest allows us to go twice as far. I live in Denver so the air is very dry. Unfortunately, the vest needs to be resoaked every 45 minutes so I don't wring it out before putting it on him....I soak it and he wears it dripping wet. The difference with or without the vest is remarkable!

Hot Diggity!!!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

The Swamp Cooler has been a life saver for our black lab mix so far this summer. From playing fetch, to longer hikes, she has been noticeably more comfortable in the heat. She weighs just over 30 lbs and we got the medium in hopes that she would grow into it eventually as she is still a pup and there is plenty of room to spare. The material does tend to dry out fairly quickly, but the light color is great for reflecting heat away.

A must for big black dogs

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

My dog is a 100 lb. Black Golden Retriever mix that loves winter and the cold, not so much summer. He just gets too hot, you can find this guy sleeping on the coldest piece of concrete he can find, and would sleep out in the snow if I would let him. Utah has hot, dry summers so I was looking for options to cool him down other than always hiking by the water. We've tested it out a few times and he absolutely loves it. It's nice, damp and cool under the vest, in dry heat it needs a refresher water soak, but even the fact that it's a lighter color on his back instead of just black helps a lot too. We put his pack on over it, he carries his own water. It does get dirty really easily and it can grab some fox tails but I haven't had any get stuck in the vest. As far as how dirty it gets, he's a dog, I think only the humans worry about that stuff. The large fits him perfect and it's easy to put on and doesn't seem to restrict him at all. I'm happy to find a product to make the best dog ever a bit more comfortable in the heat.

Works so far

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

About 90% of my dog's coat is black fur. I used this on her when hiking in southern Utah. Her fur felt cool to the touch under the vest, and I think it helped her out a great deal (went on a different hike without the vest and wished I hadn't left it in the car). The only issue I think is that the jacket dries off very fast in the dry air of the southwest, but I cannot really fault the product for that!

About

We have dog twins! XO!

I initially had some trouble with the sizing. My dog's chest measurement is 30. Which is 2 inches shy of the 32" limit for a medium. When the vest arrived it was too small. 6" or more was left uncovered on her back in front of her tail & the chest was tight she could not lower her head to drink out of a bowl. So I ordered a large, and it was much better-- complete back coverage and the chest is perfect. After the 1st use I discovered if you live in a hot dry region, do not be so enthusiastic when wringing out the vest after soaking!!! It dampens down the dogs fur better and you can go much longer before re-wetting. My dog does pant, but I notice even during high altitude hikes, with the sun beating down, the ambient temp is 90 degrees, on 2-3 hour hike she will only drink a small collapsible bamboo bowl of water. It is a wonderful thing-- even with re-wetting the vest I am not carrying any more water than before!! She also recovers much quicker once home or after brief break in shade!!
