Rough and tumble boots for working or playing hard.
Inspired by and built for oil rig workers of the 20th century, the Men's Classic Moc Roughneck Boots from Red Wing Heritage are still built with the same quality, durability, and craftsmanship that's made them a classic since the day they were first made. Leather insoles combine with the cork midsole to conform to your feet over time, just getting more comfortable every time you wear them. A steel shank runs throughout the midsole to provide support and stability, key traits when you're working 16-hour shifts on your feet. For traction in variable conditions, Red Wing used Vibram Lug soles complete with Goodyear welt construction for staying power.

- Q & A
I own a pair of moc toe Danner boots and was looking for something I could wear out in the snow but also could dress up for those holiday Xmas parties. These are perfect. They are a much tighter fit than my danner moc toes but thatâs to be expected as they have a much tighter profile. Iâve worn them a few times now and they are some of the most comfortable boots I own. Red wings run big, by about a 1/2 size. So my Danners are 10âs and my red wings 9 1/2. They are a touch snug but I can tell these babies will stretch out to become my most favorite everyday boots.
Red Wing Moc Roughneck Boot
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Everything related to this purchase was impeccable. While I had to order Red Wing inserts after the fact before the boots felt comfortable, they now feel as if I've worn them for weeks even though I've only had them on 2 or 3 times. I love them. Regarding the process of purchasing and delivery, Backcountry couldn't have been more responsive and reliable. The day after I bought the boots online, a Backcountry representative phoned me to check on the order and offer assistance should any be needed. That's a first in all my years of cyberspace purchasing. And my boots arrived one day before the Backcountry email and sales rep said they would. That's also a first! Consequently, I can't recommend the boots, Backcountry as a truly worthwhile vendor, and my entire experience related to my purchase more highly. Were more stars available, I'd apply them.
Built to Last
Break in period took a bit, but worth it. Lug sole is well made and these keep your feet dry.
Forest Through the Trees - Django Krone
Hailing from the banks of the mighty Ohio River, Django fell in love with Kentucky's Red River Gorge by way of rock climbing, however, the climbing didn't end with rocks. He decided sleeping "off the deck" was better than in a tent and with a little help from friends, he constructed a simple platform style treehouse 45 ft off the ground, where he ended up living for the next three years. Years later, his passion for building and being suspended transitioned into his life's work - The Canopy Crew.
Red Wing Heritage - Copper Rough & Tough
Red Wing Roughneck Copper
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: 11
- Height: 6'4"
- Weight: 210lbs
Pros: This is an amazing looking boot. The brand name alone carries enough weight in determining the quality of the boot (leather, sole, laces, etc.), which it very well lives up to. MAKE SURE TO ORDER AT LEAST A HALF SIZE SMALLER. I usually wear a 12 in sneakers, I ordered an 11 in these boots. It was uncomfortable at first but after breaking them in, they fit like a beautiful leather sock.
Cons: They don't stay very warm in extended cold. Be sure to use very warm socks if you're going to be walking around in below 20 degree F weather for an extended period. Kind of a big deal but its only happened once. Will revise review if it happens again.
Red Wing Roughneck Boot
I bought these for my boyfriend for his birthday and he absolutely loves them. He's been wearing them almost everyday. The leather is super thick and they can easily be dressed up with a nice shirt for work or worn casually out on the town.
Stoked to have these in the collection!
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: Runs large
Absolutely love these boots. They fit great and have broken in amazing. Pairs perfectly with a midweight Smartwool sock. First initial impression was the amazing workmanship that has gone into these boots.Second was the fit. I had heard they ran a large so def size down a half size to make sure you get a great fit that will break in nicely. Some people recommend a full size but didnt really need to in my case. Have had these boots for a little over a month now and they have been fantastic. Paired with the Vibrams soles they grip so well. If you are looking to add some boots to the collection look no further my friends. You have found the ones!
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 11 medium widht
- Height: 6'1"
- Weight: 180lbs
Ordered these boots a month or so ago in lieu of the Danner Bull Runs that were on backorder. Could not be happier with these instead of those. The leather is substantially softer and easier to work in than the Danners (Red Wing Heritage line uses briar oil slick leather that is tanned in a wholly owned US tannery).
The leather is a fully waterproof leather that I treated with red wing silicon just for double protection. The black lug soles offer much greater traction and show dirt much less than the whites of other pairs and seem to dress up a bit better as well.
Only heads up comment would be that they run more narrow than I expected. That being said I took them into a Red Wing store and they happily stretched the leather a bit for me to expedite the break in.
Purtian Stitch machine
This video shows the process the boots go through on the Puritan machine. This triple stitch not only allows for extreme durability but also aids in keeping moisture out.
