Fusion VCR Climbing Shoe

The Spirit Climbing Shoe is undoubtedly one of the best-sellers in Red Chili's collection due to its uncanny combination of comfort and beginner-friendly performance, but where do you turn when you want a stronger performance? Red Chili designed the Fusion VCR Climbing Shoe similarly to the Spirit, except it has a subtle downturn to encourage you to try more overhung routes at the gym. The Fusion has the same Powerflex midsole and leather upper as the Spirit, so your foot will feel right at home, but the updated Vibram XS Grip rubber sole is sure to amp up your climbing game a grade or two. Red Chili also upgraded this shoe with a shock absorbing unit at the heel so jumping off boulders won't feel as painful.
  • Revamped version of Red Chili's best-selling climbing shoe
  • Moderate downturn provides performance ideal for slight overhangs
  • Low asymmetry assures comfort for long routes and gym days
  • Vibram XS Grip rubber offers supple traction for plastic and rock
  • Powerflex midsole with Impact Zone shock absorber for comfort
  • Expect the leather upper to stretch a full or half size
  • Item #RDC000K

For Wide Feet

I've put it through the wringer

If you have wide feet like me, you've probably tried on dozens of shoes and have difficulty downsizing. Scarpas are typically my go-to brand, but I've owned RC matadors in the past and liked them quite a bit (aside from the normal width). The problem I have with Scarpa is that the heel doesn't fit my foot quite right. I love the heel on the old Sportiva Pythons, but have been looking for something with a similar heel and a wider forefoot. I do a lot of bouldering and find that well fitting heels, a decent toe patch and medium sensitivity gives a well rounded shoe that works well on most routes. When I read that Red Chili had taken the last from the Spirit and added XS Grip rubber and an improved toe patch, I knew that these would be the shoe for me. The Spirit is the most comfortable shoe for wide feet that I've tried. The fusion is an even better shoe for bouldering and is comfortable in street shoe size for all day use. For my next pair, I'll probably downsize by 1/2 size -- something that is normally impossible for me in most other brands and even models (eg. matador, voltage) within the Red Chili line. Of the shoes I've owned, I would say that these are most similar to the Scarpa Vapor V's. If you've tried those and aren't quite happy with the fit of the heel, I'd recommend giving these a shot. These are a solid workhorse shoe, good for wearing multiple days consecutively outdoors, good on most types of terrain from slab to overhang. Top notch fit for wide feet.

Comfortable Performance

Size Bought

I was recently able to try Red Chilies for the first time. Not sure what took me so long. They are a solid brand, for sure! The comfort aspect is remarkable. I was able to climb hard in them, even though they were out of the box. The rubber is also really grippy. I did 4 stars since I don't yet know how long the rubber will last. I was very impressed though, so I have high hopes. I would use this model for long routes and gyms. It's comfortable, but still reliable. Size these a little lower than your street shoe size. I'm an 8.5-9.0. The 8.0 is good for a tight, high performing fit.
