Why We Like The Rab VR Summit Jacket

To stay warm when standing still and prevent overheating when on the move, we zip into Rab's VR Summit Jacket. This versatile layer is equipped with a soft lining that wicks away moisture as we huff up steeps and holds in heat as we take in the summit view. From misting skies to whipping spindrift, the treated exterior sheds drizzles and cuts the force of icy winds yet still lets our own vapor escape, keeping our microclimate temperate from base to peak and back again.

I absolutely love this jacket. It is a great inbetweenie when a goretex waterproof is too much plus it is tough enough for scrambling against granite. Pockets in the right place, windproof & scrunches up nice and small. I love the small wrist cuffs because guess what? I have small wrists and nearly always this makes for a draughty fit and cold hands. I wish all outdoor makers would bring back ribbed cuffs. They fell out of favour in the early 90s. Nowadays all jackets are finished off at the wrist with that thin ring of material which is a useless insulator just where you need it. Are you listening, Rab?!

Well effective for cooler days

Well effective for cooler days as described. Waterproof. Nice colour. Enough pockets. My dissapointment are material creases, but light ironing helps. In that process the logo is no longer on the jacket, removed by heat. Due to the amount I paid for the jacket thats a not so happy feeling!!

Tight cuffs a problem!

I bought one of these jackets about a year ago and generally I'm pretty happy with it. What spoils it for me however (which I didn't notice at time of purchase) is the tight cuffs, with actually very little stretch in them. The stiffened velcro patch (which in my view is totally redundant) sits right over where my GPS watch sits, so it's virtually impossible to pull the cuff back to even see or operate my watch. Come on Rab, you can do better!!

Superlight and comfortable on a tough trek in tricky weather

On the tough 80k Patagonian Torres del Paine W trek with variable weather from mild and sunny to wild buffeting wind and snow showers, this little jacket kept me completely comfortable. I've ordered VR trousers and hope they will be as good as the jacket. NB 2-way zip is great. Love the lining. Wish there were gloves of the same material.

Fantastic jacket. Love the contrasting blue colours. It’s light weight yet the material feels robust and it’s so comfortable to wear. So far it’s kept me at a comfortable temperature both climbing and scrambling.

A lightweight jacket with a warm lightly fleeced interior. The exterior blocks some of the chill; the interior adds warmth without bulk. Not too short in the body. Absolutely perfect for couch to 5 on a fresh morning. With some trepidation I bought the red. I love it. Well done Rab.

Great jacket but you could “tone down” the linings making them a bit more‘sympathetic’
