For the unpredictable.
The weatherman said there would be nothing but blue skies ahead, but your conventional wisdom has taught you to be prepared just in case he's wrong. That's why you always start by packing in the Rab Women's Kinetic Plus Hooded Jacket before heading to the crag. This light jacket gives you total range of motion thanks to its super stretchy construction, and keeps water from light showers or torrential downpours safely outside, so you can keep going on your adventure. It's crafted from Rab's Proflex stretchy, breathable and waterproof fabric that has a knack for pulling moisture away from your skin, and ushering it to the outside, so a sprint to the top of a steep approach doesn't leave you bogged down with sweat. Its AquaGuard YKK zippers help to keep water from sneaking in, and on top the hood stretches snugly around your face, while a rigid laminated peak sends raindrops away from you. Two extra-large A-line pockets offer plenty of storage for the hike, and their extended zipper allows for access even with a harness on.

When I first saw this, I thought it was just a standard softshell. NOT SO. Instead, I was amazed (and a little skeptical) that it was a fully waterproof jacket complete with a nice fitting hood with bill.
It exceeded my expectations.
I used it on a week-long camping trip in the Utah desert. I was worried it wouldn't be that breathable..and it was a tad bit heavy for the heat (late May in the desert is pretty hot). BUT, there were a couple days when it was raining in Grand Staircase Escalante NM and the jacket worked perfectly. The water just brushed off the jacket and provided full coverage. I especially loved the cut of the jacket -- longer in the back to keep your back covered and slightly longer sleeve lengths with adjustable wrist cuffs.
Probably the best thing about this jacket, though, is the stretchy-ness of the material. I can wear it alone over the flannel or over my Patagonia nano puff, and it maintains its shape and still provides full range of motion. AND, it does not feel like you're wearing a garbage bag. It's amazing.
The one thing that I would like to see is the jacket being able to fold into its pocket like the patagonia houdini. It comes with small stuff sack, but at that point, you might as well just stuff it in your bag and not bother with the extra weight of the bag.
