VPD Air Leg

With the progression of trail bikes comes the evolution of riding, which often means we're railing faster into corners, boosting over rollers, and popping down the occasional rock garden with some serious speed. Consequently, this also means that when we go down, we go down a bit harder. But that doesn't mean we want to load up with bulky DH level pads when most of the day will be spent pedaling, which is why POC brings us a knee pad that's evolved along with our riding, the VPD Air Leg.

This light and airy pad offers just a touch of protection, while loading you up with super breathable and compressive materials that shield from scrapes, and help blood circulation to reduce fatigue. They're preshaped to boost flexibility and sit comfortably when you're pedaling, while silicone strips at the top and bottom lock them in place, even when you're booking it into loose root latticed old growth. On long climbs and punchy switchbacks you'll be happy that they are crafted from perforated material that is designed to increase airflow while pulling away moisture to keep you dry and cool inside.

  • Light and airy pads for trail and enduro days
  • Minimal padding level for just a bit of peace of mind
  • Let cool air in and wick away sweat with perforated material
  • Compressive fit supports muscles and doesn't slide around
  • Enjoy full range of motion with preshaped knees
  • Silicone at top and bottom secure pads in place
  • Ultra-breathable for long an tedious climbs

Pedal friendly

I've used it several times

Admittedly, I haven't put these through the fall test. I ride XC/Trail and like knee pads for confidence pushing through flat corners. Pine needles in the fall create very slippery trails. I've used the Fox Enduro knee pads for the last 2 years. They're okay and have worked pretty well on falls. My complaint about them is that the pads are flat (rather than formed) in their natural resting state so they tend to put pressure on your knee cap while pedaling. I went in search of a better minimalist knee pad and bought both the Rapha Trail Knee Pads ($110) and these POC VPD Air Leg pads. Both are superior to the Fox Enduros as they're shaped. Both stay in place well. I'd like both to have a higher leg cuff (similar to Fox's) as both periodically had the unsightly thigh gap when worn with my Assos Trail Shorts (these are first rate). Perhaps preference but I find the POC VPD Air Legs fit me like they were designed specifically for me. The Raphas are a little tight in the calf but a little loose in the thigh. The Rapha sizing seems weird in general. I'm a L in the Fox Enduros, M in the POC, and oddly, a S in the Raphas. From an appearance standpoint, the POCs are the best looking of the three. The POCs are nearly half the price of the Raphas and seem like the H2H winners to me. I'll still wear the Raphas as my backup pads but I think the Fox's will be retired.

Great minimalist knee pad

I've used it several times
Size Bought:
5' 8"

These knee pads are great. You?ll forget you?re wearing them once you start riding. Even when you?re pedaling in hot weather you really don?t feel them. It?s better to be padded and not need it then to not be padded and need it. I highly recommend these. I suggest going with the size measurement that POC recommends.
