    Getting active with the Actik.

The Actic will light up snowy trails in front of you during dawn patrols, and it'll be there at night when you're heading back home after a dusk hike. The mixed beam uses flat and concentrated lighting to give you clarity when you're running. Petzl's rechargeable battery makes sure you don't have to purchase AAA batteries every season.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've told people time and again that a good headlamp is one of the most valuable hiking items in which to invest, especially in the winter months when it's dark for half the day. This light is great: lightweight, rechargeable, extremely bright at its highest setting, and nice and dim at its lowest. The red light is also ideal for keep night vision intact - and not blinding everyone around you. It's worth the money!

    Great Headlamp!

Awesome headlamp, used it for a couple of morning hikes and am really surprised at how bright it is! The rechargeable aspect of it is awesome and allows your headlamp to always be dependable! Great buy!

If your looking for a good headlamp at a decent price, look no further. I absolutely love this little headlamp! I used it almost every weekend camping this last summer. It wasn't until I spent an entire week and Moab that the batteries finally died. The red light not only functions as a great way to see in the dark without blinding the people around you, but it also saves the battery life on your headlamp.

    There are better options.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

First I will start with the pro's: the button and all the setting are super easy to use. the brightness goes from a pretty dim setting, a middle setting (most applications), to a fairly bright setting. its a very user friendly headlamp.

Cons: the headlamp has to be secured fairly tight to prevent it from bouncing around. when you do have the band secure, if you are trail running, the angle adjustment can inadvertently tilt on you.

I would have given it 4 stars, but because of the price, you can find something better.

    Petzl Does it Again

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This light works extremely well. The core recharger runs the light for a very long time on all modes. The only flaw is that you have to open the headlamp to connect the charger. This does, however, allow you to charge and run you headlamps separately.

    Bright Light

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This headlamp has everything I want. It's bright, lightweight, it's orange (my favorite color), and has a red light. I look for all of those things in a headlamp and this one had all of them! It's definitely been my go-to since getting it. I also love the rechargeable and battery aspect of it. I prefer to just recharge it so I don't waste tons of batteries, but if I need it and I forgot to charge it, I can just pop some batteries in and I'm good to go!

    Great for night hikes

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I love my Petzl Tikka headlamp so I was excited to give the Actik Core a try. I decided to take the Actik over my Tikka because I was going on a sunrise hike starting in the dark and the extra lumens was totally noticeable and I was so glad I brought the Actik along. Unfortunately I did not have time to fully charge the battery so the brightest setting ran out just 30 minutes before the summit and I had to finish the hike on the lower setting, but luckily I was still able to navigate. So be sure to be fully charged!

    Great for night hikes

    Core is a plus

Glad I made the switch to using the Actik considering the batteries used are both economically and environmentally more friendly. Gonna get a spare battery and be set up for years to come. I've noticed it doesn't turn on unexpectedly compared to other lights ive used.

      Love Petzl Headlamps

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

So far, so good. I've used this lamp on a through hike in the back country and it worked well. Simple, didn't accidentally turn on, held the charge. The head strap is comfortable and the light is bright. Red light works well for hanging out at camp. I appreciate the rechargeable battery and charging cord that comes with it!
This is my second Petzl headlamp. The first one lasted me more than eight years, included two in the west African desert, and would've kept going had I not forgotten it somewhere. Thanks for making solid headlamps Petzl.

      Excelente headlamp!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

      Great headlamp

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought it for the significant other and she loves it! Nice and tight fit, won't fall on your face if you have to start working hard. Recharging is fast and great so you don't have to be buying batteries for it. It is super bright if you want it and you can dial it down if you are hanging around the fire or in your tent!

      Great headlamp!

      It's great!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

They hang on my rear view mirror and come with me everywhere I go. I've used them to change tires at night, to read before bed (night light) and to search through gear while it's dark. I love that it's super easy to charge, I usually do it while driving away from wherever I was when I used them last.

The one thing I can't seem to get right is the headband adjustment. It's either too loose or too tight. I can't find the happy middle.

      Ideal for trail running

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Been using for several weeks for early morning runs both on and off trail. Glad to have a reasonably priced lamp that is rechargeable and throws 350 lumens. Lamp is light weight and dependable for moderate use. Haven't used for long periods of time or for intensive use. Charging is easy using USB. Glad to not be wasting batteries every couple of weeks.

      Drains Battery FAST!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Other than in-camp usage, there's only one real setting on this light that's usable, and that's the highest setting. Unfortunately, you'll drain either the included battery pack, or 3 AAAs FAST - a few hours at most. I thought this would be a nice little head torch to have around, but even in , "Oops, I'm stuck out longer than I realized! Thank goodness I have this headtorch" situations, it falls flat. Think of the highest setting as a high beam you can manually turn on for specific times, then manually turn off. And I mean turn off - you need to turn off the entire light to go through all the different light modes, starting with, "red", then "brighter red", etc.

The battery pack is removable, which is a blessing and a curse - you have to open the headtorch itself to access the USB plug, which is a great chance for the battery pack and the torch itself to part ways. The USB plug sticks straight out of the flat side of the battery, which again is a great chance to damage your USB chord, and isn't very pack-able, for on-the-go charging.

Oh, and no way to lock the light, so it can't be turned on by accident when packed.

Finally, the light tells you the batteries are almost out be pulsating rapidly. Like, the light itself. I can't tell you how annoying that is. Like, I want to kill the light, but I'm in epileptic shock because of the light, annoying. No, infuriating. Other headtorches I have had the pleasure of owning have a led indicator on the side and don't cause me to hate myself and the $60 I've lost to this little thing.

Everything else is just kind of a lightweight cheap-plastic-y feel to it.

It says right there on the package how long the light works on each setting. Why are you surprised? Unlike other big name headlamps, this is one works exactly as advertised and is actually regulated, meaning that it provides the same brightness when the batteries are fresh and when they are about to die. Which is great for adults that carry spare batterries so they don't have "oops" moments. And the light is plenty bright, on the medium setting.

      Awesome headlamp

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Couldn't ask for a better headlamp at the price point. Feels sturdy, light and wow, 350 lumens sure does the trick on evening hikes in the Wasatch!

The rechargeable aspect of the headlamp is superb, full lumens lasts for 2 hours until the next charge, however, I rarely use the full to conserve battery except when biking. The battery pack is also compatible with normal AAA batteries, ideal on long backpacking trips or when you left your solar charger at home.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this product, haven't had any issues yet.

      such light much lumens

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My very very old and well loved Tikka finally was lost before it could die a painful death. I tried two different BD's in between and they both shorted out on me in less than a year. Right now I'm mostly stoked on the light power this thing has, but my fingers are crossed that good reviews and my old reliable brand + rechargeable power will be worth it!
