R1 Techface Hooded Jacket

You loved your Regulator fleece, but always felt you needed a protective layer over it. The Patagonia Women’s R1 TechFace Hooded Jacket has the warmth, stretch, and breathability you love about the R1, but the smoother face provides enhanced resistance to weather and abrasions. Slip it on before you climb, and enjoy a cozy belay for once, with sublimely soft fleece against your skin and the adjustable hood wrapping around your climbing helmet. The DWR finish resists light precipitation—as well as the wine you spilled when you became too enthusiastic telling a story—so you feel and look great by the time you head home.

  • Jacket for climbing, hiking, or casual wear
  • Fleece is cozy, breathable, and luxuriously soft
  • Smooth face resists abrasions and layers easily
  • DWR finish resists light precipitation and spills
  • Recycled content is eco-friendly
  • Hood adjusts comfortably over your climbing helmet
  • High hand pockets are harness-friendly

I have two of these Techface garments, one a pullover and the other a full zip jacket; It's amazing how this fabric blocks wind gusts and drizzles; keeps you warm when chilly but is not too warm if you step inside or temps rise outdoors. How did Patagonia do it?? So I decided to gift my wife this terrific garment. She usually wears Small in Patagucci, so I got this in Small. Turns out its "trim fit" was a little too trim for her taste; it might be OK for you if you're slim/athletic. So I have returned it for a Medium. I strongly encourage you to consider this extraordinary technical garment; especially if you live in or travel to places where the weather changes on a moment's notice!!

My loyalty to Patagonia started as a kid when my family was sponsored by the company for mountain bike racing. Fast forward 30 years and I have owned many Patagonia jackets. Stolen from my parents, hunted in thrift stores, and bought brand new. I have more R1s than I care to admit, I own the Nano air light hybrid, and plenty of hard/softshell jackets. I think that this might replace them all as my daily driver. The fit on this is a bit looser and longer than the regular R1 jacket, which I appreciate because I am quite tall. The arms are the appropriate length on me. The bottom hem is long enough that I wont be exposed while bent forward on my bike. And even though the fit is a bit more roomy it fits under a climbing harness just fine. I also like that I can wear a thicker baselayer without feeling bunched up by the layers. I would say this is a similar cut to the Alpine R1 that has the longer waist and arms. I really love the hood on this compared to the other R1s. I can fit my climbing and biking helmets under the hood easily. The outer fabric reminds me of the Houdini Air jacket, but stronger. The fleece pile is lower than the standard R1. I don't think this will make it any less warm as the softshell fabric will help insulate by cutting the wind. I have struggled to layer well for all my activities since moving to Seattle. Its frequently cold here, but not too cold. Its also wet, but not always pouring. The nano air hybrid used to be my favorite layer....until I moved here and it just doesn't work for me in this climate. Hardshell jackets just make me sweat a ton and softshell jackets are either too warm or not warm enough. I think that this is going to fill the gap between all my layers. One last point....this Catalan Coral color is AMAZING. Patagonia, thank you for putting a womens color out there that hasn't been made "cute" or "girly" (not that theres anything wrong with the pink and teal, it just isn't my thing). This coral is a perfect blend of bright red and orange and looks like it was pulled out of the mens line whose colors I often admire.

Amazing Jacket!

This jacket is super lightweight while still being a warm layer! I love the 'waffle' material that it is made with. Perfect jacket for layering and cold mountain bike rides!

Wore this a few times on a camping trip in the Uintas, where the weather was breezy and cool despite it being August. It's the perfect jacket for such conditions, adding light warmth while the techface fabric sheds light wind and moisture. I tried the xsmall, but will probably exchange it for the small if I can. The sleeves were a tad short, though it zipped up just fine and was easy to move in. My one concern is the way the zipper bumps up when it's zipped up, but that may be due to the size issue.

I took this bad boy out on the river in Idaho last weekend. It is perfect for that chilly morning or evening. The zip pockets ensured everything stayed put. There is spandex built into this jacket so there is room for stretch. It didn't restrict my cast at all! :) It has a flattering fit so it was a perfect jacket to wear out that evening at a local bar!

I've been looking for that perfect in between jacket for a while now and finally found it! Great light/midweight jacket for those awkward transitional days. I love that it has some stretch to it and it's super comfy to wear. The interior fleece is soft against bare skin but not as thick as I was expecting, which is a good thing in this case since I wanted a more lightweight jacket vs. warm fleece. I also appreciate that it offers some protection from wind and light rain. The medium fits me well and I have extra room for layers if needed.

This jacket is a great all around jacket! I feel like it fills some holes in my wardrobe and also made a few of my pieces obsolete. It's lightweight but still nice and warm. The tech face repels enough water so you don't have to worry about a rain shell if you aren't sure about the weather. I wear it biking, hiking and around town. Love the Arrow Red color. It's pink but very subtle. I usually wear a size small in Patagonia and it was the same for this jacket. I'm 5'7 and 135 lbs and a small was perfect.

This jacket is perfect for Spring, Summer and Fall weather. It is lightweight, stretchy and thin. The fit is flattering and the style is nice enough that you don't feel like you are always wearing an activewear jacket. The interior of the jacket is comfy as it contains the original R1 fabric. Highly Recommend!

I used this for a recent April spring ski trip to Vail, Colorado. I used it in the airport while traveling over my t-shirt and leggings to keep warm, and also while skiing to keep the chilly air off and humidity ventilated while skiing down those back bowls. I love the coverage for my long arms and torso, but that it's well-fitted and not baggy on my athletic build.
