Dry and warm in 8 degrees F.

I've used it several times

I used these over my hiking shoes (not boots) while snowshoeing around the Mt Washington are in New Hampshire in 8 degree F weather with 28 inches of snow on the ground.. They fit snug without binding and kept snow out of my shoes completely. The little cleat in the front kept them in place perfectly They also kept my calves warm-an added bonus! And nice purple color!

Dry and packable

I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these for my wife and they work great. They aren't as burly as the crocodiles but they are still waterproof and will pack a lot smaller. She uses them for going out and feeding the goats in the winter, snowshoeing, winter hiking, etc. They are easy to toss in a pack if you think you might encounter snow on your adventures.

Thanks so much, Chris! Leta OR Rep

Mom is a Happy Hiker

I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought these for my mom for her winter snowshoeing adventures. She's used them once so far and found them easy to use and gave good protection in deep snow.

Well made but wish they had elastic

I returned this product before using it

I really liked these but decided to not keep them out of concern that they would be falling down. I'm a slim/petite female and the strap at the top barely got tight enough to hold up. I wish they had elastic draw strings instead. Otherwise I would have kept them if they were a hair smaller!

Dust-proof 3/4 height gaiters

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I used these gaiters to hike Kilimanjaro and they were a god-send with all the dust on the trail when I went. Luckily, I didn't need to use them in the rain (so I cannot comment on their mud/water/snow repulsion), but I was a huge fan of them for hiking in dusty conditions every day, and sliding down the scree after the summit! These gaiters do not reach the knee, which I don't mind. The velcro up the front keeps the gaiter from slipping down, even when the top clip is undone, and I'm glad to keep more of my leg ventilated. When I'd finish each day, the portion of pants under my gaiter was always sweaty! My annoyance was with the clip for laces as my hiking shoes had a center tie on the top laces and I had to put the clip off-center on the shoe. This made the clip less secure, and I usually had to adjust it 2-3 times each day to keep it in place. Overall, I am happy with these and would recommend them for Kili!

Thank you for the review, Ruth. Really hard to get a gaiter that really breathes well and is waterproof. Even Gore gaiters can leave you sweaty! Really depends on humidity as well. Happy Trails, Leta OR Rep

Sizing is off

I had to return these because they only came up to about mid calf and would fall down while walking. I then bought some mens smalls and I love them!! They cover my entire calf.

So sorry, Danielle! It's really hard to size gaiters. I am glad you got the right size for you! Leta OR Rep

Stayed nice and dry

Took these on a very wet trek to Owl's Head, you know one of those trails where you can't tell if you're on a trail or in a brook. They performed flawlessly.

Gets the job done

I've used it several times

I used these gaiters for the first time today, post-holing up a mountain for 5 miles...and they worked great! The design is simple and clean, easy to use, and works well enough. I wear a size 7 shoe and am between sizes, so I ordered a medium thinking it would be good if a friend with bigger feet ever wanted to borrow them. After several hours of hiking, I started to get some snow in my boots, making me wish I would've bought the size small, as this likely would'nt have been an issue if I had sized down. If only the bottom of the gaiters were more adjustable to various shoe sizes....other than that I LOVE them!

Great feedback - thank you! Leta OR Rep

Kept my feet dry and stay up perfectly

I've put it through the wringer

I have worn Outdoor Research gaiters for years and these are great for keeping out the rain while backpacking. I am 5'5" and the Medium come up to just below my knees. My calves are not particularly big and these always stay up without a problem.

The Good and Bad

The water proofing of these haters are great. The function it provides I give it 4 stars, my feet have stayed dry snowshoeing though deep snow for many miles. Now for the bad; the fit of the gaiters is off. I'm only 5.4 and the gaiter only comes up to my mid calf. In the photo it appears that it will come up to your knee, this is not the case. I was so sad that everything else about

Dry Feet = Happy Feet

I've put it through the wringer

These gaiters are easy to adjust to get a perfect snug fit that will stay secure. How dare we say they are comfortable but in all truth these gaiters will make your powder trudging a lot easier. Give me a shout if you want to talk gaiters or powder trudging. Shoe size: 6.5 womens Gaiter size: Small Eric Watford Expert Gearhead 801-736-6397 Instagram: @ericwatford

Material Comparison

On the left is OR Verglas gaiters with the SUPER WATERPROOF Pertex Shield & on the right is the OR Rocky Mtn. Gaiters with their water resistant material. HUGE difference. The Verglas Gaiters are built to last & keep you dry!

Verglas vs. The Rocky Mtn. Gaiter

The Hypalon instep strap on both gaiters are made well but the Verglas has a significantly stronger attachment of the strap to the Gaiter itself. The Verglas is on the left & the Rocky Mtn. is on the right.

Wife LOVES them!

I've put it through the wringer

My wife has used these gaiters hard for a long time now & they look almost brand new. They breath well & hold out any bit of moisture that tries to get in. A wonderful Gaiter at an awesome price!

Are the gaiters snake proof? We have rattlesnakes.

Hi Elaine, They are not. If you have any other questions or need assistance with an existing order or placing an order, please feel free to contact us on Chat or call us at 1-800-409-4502. Thanks!

What are heights of the Gaiters -- medium & large size? Also the same question for the men's version. Thank you

Marilou, I am sorry, I do not have those measurements. Are you trying to find out sizing? Leta OR Rep

If you're right between M/L sizing, would you recommend sizing up or down? Thanks

Hi there, Leta from Outdoor Research here. Thanks for the question, I think its one that many wonder about. I consulted with the Product design manager for this product at OR, so you are in good hands! The question I have is about what boot you are using and how large is your calf? Do you think you have large calves? Thinner calves? Is your boot a bigger mountaineering boot or smaller? These will help you make the right choice. Bottom line, even if you realize you got the wrong size, these folks at Backcountry will take good care of you to switch it out! I'm here if you have any more questions. Please don't hesitate to ask!
