Why We Like The Skytour AscentShell Jacket
There's a reason the critics rave about the Skytour AscentShell Jacket: it's exceptionally light and agile with premium weather protection and temperature regulation. This comes from both properly placed ventilation and its highly breathable fabric. What really makes this touring jacket is Outdoor Research's 3L AscentShell membrane. It features no excess material, meaning no excess weight to burden us as we trek our way deep through pristine plains of powder. If we want even more coverage, we can grab a pair of matching SkyTour bibs and buckle them into our SkyTour jacket.

Love this jacket
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Good fit and love the color. I haven't been in a very wet weather with this coat yet, hopefully it is truly waterproof. It will come handy for hiking in the rain as well.

Excited at the versitility
I'm excited about this jacket. When it arrived I wasn't sure, because although it's really handsome and seems very high quality I couldn't believe it was waterproof. I live in the PNW and we get a lot of cold rain. No doubt it'll work for snow (I haven't tried it yet) but I just wasn't convinced it would work for our wet winters. Well, I finally took the tags off today and took it hiking and it was just perfect. Warm, wind-proof, totally waterproof, quiet, stylish protection. Unzipped a bit it worked great on the uphills, but I was plenty warm enough when I stopped sweating too. I have a really light rainshell but I often get too cold if I'm out for hours in poor weather, and it's very fitted so hard to layer up. But this thing has plenty of room for layers. I would say TTS, it is not as fitted as some jackets but I can fit a full hooded puffy under it. And, it doesn't look "too big" either way. I was looking for a versatile jacket for Oregon and Alaska (where I work sometimes) and I'm really happy with this jacket. Excited to put it through the ringer.

I found my Unicorn!
After three winters of trying to (unsuccessfully) find a parka to replace my beloved Isis, I found my next unicorn. I am definitely a pear-shaped, curvy fit, who prefers a two way zipper to give some ease through the hips, and this coat delivers an amazing fit! It arrived just in time for a series of Atmospheric River/"Bomb Cyclone" storms here and it's kept me bone-dry working outdoors in the yard or running errands for a couple hours at a time. Plenty of room to layer, generous range on the wrist cinches, generous hood w/ hood adjustment points. Fabric is fantastic-soft, breathable, hint of stretch. Cut is flattering. My only gripe (which is a barely-gripe) is the bottom half of the 2-way zipper seems a little stiff/reluctant... it may just need to break in a bit. I'm a women's 10-12 on top, 14-curvy on the bottom - bought an XL which has just the right amount of room for winter layers w/ a puffer up top and through the hips/seat. If OR offers fresh colors next year (Berry? Indigo? Teal?), I might consider buying a second one to leave one at home and one in Tahoe. I see why it's an award winner.

great for ski tours!
I have a light weight rain coat and it just wasn't covering it as a good layer for ski touring. I live in the PNW and this has been PERFECT so far! Love the color! I'm usually an XS or an S in jackets and the XS is great, can fit a few layers under it no problem

Love it!
Great jacket. Protects against wind. Can wear with a light top or a heavier top for extra warmth. Very versatile. Pretty much works for any type of weather. Love the color (blue).

Loved this Shell Jacket.
I love this shell jacket. I took a vacation to Iceland and wanted something that I could wear my down sweater underneath without being too bulky and this jacket did the trick. It kept me dry and wind proof capability was quite good. Highly recommend jacket.

Cute, functional, runs big!!
Love the color and style of this coat, and it performs well functionally. Good pockets, good zips, good breathability/wind and water-stopping trade off. Only thing-runs really large. I've always been a solid small in OR (5'6", 125lbs) but this fits as large on me as my medium OR raincoat. Which is good for layering but it's still huge over my fleece and puffy. Wish I had sized down.

Finally! Great shell.
Nice long parka with room for layers. Quiet(ish). Roomy in upper arms/shoulders, which was my primary objective. Double zipper for those of us with a short torso who also like something covering our bum. Great pockets including card pocket in lower sleeve. 5'3", 120 lbs, hard-core expert skier, and size small is perfect. Sleeves on the long side as is par for OR, apparently.

Great fit and awesome color
I've had such a hard time finding a coat that fits. Since I'm wider in the hips so in order for a jacket to fit over them they usually have to be bigger in size and then the rest of the jacket is clearly too big. This jacket is perfect. Fits over my hips. Long enough and arms aren't too long. Love the colors and all the pockets too!
