Made for long days on the mountain.

Outdoor Research built the Men's Offchute Pant with the weatherproofing needed to keep you warm and dry when you're riding chairlifts in a snowstorm, along with the stretch and breathability you want when you're earning your turns in the backcountry. The result is a ski pant that works hard during long days on the mountain, whether you're lapping the resort or searching for freshies beyond the gates.

Ventia fabric is stretchy, breathable, quiet, and smooth like a softshell, but withstands gusty conditions and heavy snowfall like a hardshell. A touch of insulation in the seat and knees help you stay warm during long lift rides. Zippered thigh vents keep you from getting drenched with sweat when you're skiing spring corn. And since you should never leave the resort without proper avalanche safety gear (and training), Outdoor Research included a convenient beacon pocket with clip so you can stay prepared without having to deal with your beacon strapped uncomfortably around your chest.

    • Softshell comfort with hardshell performance
    • Ventia fabric is flexible and breathes well
    • Fully taped seams seal out moisture
    • Thigh vents dump excess heat
    • Avalanche beacon pocket for convenient storage
    • Gusseted crotch for uninhibited mobility
    • Reinforced scuff guards protect hems
    • Stretch-mesh internal gaiter with Power Strap slot
    • Item #ODR00HT

Quality product, worked out quite well

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 6'3"
    • Weight: 205lbs

I got these Ski pants as a gift for my buddy Johnny, and I only have his initial impressions.

I received these pants as a present, and really enjoy the,, I matched them with the Spyder Hokkaido Insulated Jacket - Men's, definitely a stylish look. I had a long-weekend trip up to Sunday River, in Maine. I had no complaints as far as the performance goes, they are waterproof, and performed well for me, in the east coast conditions, the hint of insulation added a nice touch, which kept me comfortable while riding the lift, and on the mountain.

Overall a solid pair of ski pants, I would recommend them to friends!

    Poor-quality materials

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

The outer shell of pants ripped open the third time I wore them. I'm not sure how they ripped, but at the end of a normal day of skiing (no tumbling down rocks or anything that obviously would have damaged them), I noticed a two-inch long tear and several smaller punctures from the knees down.

I bought these because I have gloves and a jacket from OR that I'm very happy with, but I immediately noticed with these that the material felt flimsy and thin compared to the pair from another brand I've had for years. I figured that it was just a matter of more modern construction, but in eight years in my previous ski pants, I never had anything that I'd consider more than normal wear and tear. I'll have to look for a new pair for next season.

I'm also not sure how they claim the fabric is "quiet" - my girlfriend has commented on how loud they are, and that's from another room in the house!

Good DWR pants, not 100% waterproof

I've always loved OR stuff, figured I would give these pants a shot. They work really well, even on blower powder days keeping me dry, and the light amount of insulation is a nice touch. I did notice though that they are not completely waterproof, as the seat of the pants was soaking through at the end of a long day sitting on snow covered chair lifts.

    Hey Luke -
It's a tough one for sure, because of the pressure that is pushing the water through when you sit on it. Gore would do a better job, but would also eventually push through. This has a 10,000 mm waterproof rating, while Gore is 20,000+, but it costs more. Many traditional ski apparel brands have just a 5,000 mm rating, but the trouble is exactly what you saw about sitting on a snowy lift. For waterproofness, it really also has to do with pressure, and sitting on it forces the water through way easier!

    Thanks for the review, Luke!
