Why We Like The Oboz Whakata Puffy Low x Skida Shoe
Oboz tag-teamed with Vermont-based Skida to serve up some fresh versions of the cozy Whakata Puffy Shoe. The Whakata (pronounced fah-cah-TAAH) is an insulated camp shoe that's built to keep our feet toasty after a long day of hiking, which also makes it a cozy moc for our hut-to-hut trips or a premium indoor/outdoor slipper that lets us slip outside to grab our Backcountry package and then slide back to the recliner to show off everything in our order. It's basically a puffy jacket for our feet, and its name means "to catch breath, rest, have a break" in the indigenous Māori language of New Zealand.

High hopes but poor design
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I really loved the look of these shoes and the large toe box. However, I found that they have a huge design flaw around the heel and ankle where the waterproof flap is sewn around the opening of the shoe. There is a very thick seam that runs right across the heel where the flap is sewn onto the shoe that is horribly uncomfortable. I am not sure who would think that putting a large seam across the heel would be comfortable. Perhaps ordering a size up is the answer? I don’t know. But I was really disappointed for the price if these shoes. Returned. Oh, and receiving notice from Backcountry as to whether they received my return seems to be a crap shoot. I don’t think I will be ordering from this retailer again.

Cute and Practical!

If you are looking for sleekness, these are not it - but they are super comfy, insulated so they are warm, and the print makes them irresistible! The collab between Oboz and Skida is a winner! Perfect for wearing to the resort as well as apres. The fit is wide, but it works with my ski socks. I got a size 7 elsewhere because they looked big to me, and they were too small, so ordered the size 8 on Backcountry. They fit perfectly lengthwise, but as stated, are a wider fit. I will use these every time I head to the resort to ski.
