Firebrand II B-Dry Hiking Shoe

Whether you're exploring unnamed canyons in a remote corner of the Colorado plateau or summiting 14ers in the West Elks, the Oboz Men's Firebrand II Hiking Shoes will handle what lies ahead with a waterproof construction, aggressive sole, and cushioning midsole. The Firebrand II toes the line between beefy boot and lightweight hiking shoe, with an upper made with stout, wear-resistant nubuck leather and textile panels. A rubber toe cap protects against scuffs and scrapes, while a waterproof insert shields against any rain or water your feet might encounter on the trail. The Firebrand II features Oboz's Sawtooth sole, which extends the lugs of the sole up around the sides of the shoe to offer additional traction when traversing side-sloping and deeply rutted trails. A nylon shank within the dual-density midsole increases stability when hiking between cairns across scree fields, and the BFit Deluxe insole offers a comfortable and supportive fit right out of the box.

  • Versatile waterproof hiking shoe for hitting the trail
  • BDry waterproof membrane keeps feet dry throughout the day
  • Nubuck leather and textile upper resists signs of wear
  • Sawtooth rubber sole provides grip across mixed terrain

Solid Hiking Shoe

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. I'm typically running when I'm on trails but have been doing more hiking recently, so I'm more comparing the Oboz Firebrand II hiking shoes to my typical trail running shoes. I really like the light weight feel and felt like it fit true to size (I typically wear a 9/9.5 in casual shoes and 9.5/10 for running shoes) and the 9.5 fit me well. The weight of the shoe felt really close to my usual trails shoes but more like a tank when dealing with unpredictable terrain and uneven trails, which I really like. I took them for a hike outside of Squamish, BC, so of course the route that I tested them on involved some minor scrambling (in Squamish intermediate hike = scrambling) along with a lot of rocky trails. The outsoles felt very grippy when scrambling and super comfortable when walking over rocky trails. The Earth color option for the Oboz Firebrand II was spot on for what I received but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I was not able to test how waterproof the shoes are. Overall I really liked this hiking shoe and am looking forward to adding it to my to my arsenal. (And yes I sometimes wear black socks with brown shoes when hiking)

My favorite do-it-all shoe

Okay, well 'almost' do-it-all. I don't run, bike, paddle, or ski in them, but they are fantastic trail shoes and I've worn my current pair for over four years now nearly every day. Even after this amount of hard use I am amazed at how they've kept my feet dry this past fall running around in wet grass for hours while coaching my son's football practices. They are supremely comfortable for my size 9.5, high-arched feet and are great as approach shoes or even casual office wear. The only signs of wear that I can find are on the fabric lowers to the inside and outside of the foot near the toes, even the insoles are still in good shape! Still waterproof though and yet no issues with clamminess or smell. I do wear Smartwool socks though year round.

These have a very low and narrow heel. First pair of hiking shoes I've had in a long time that weren't comfortable right away. Tried to break them in with a short hike, and wound up with quarter-sized blisters on BOTH heels after about a mile and a half. They do seem to be well made, but... I'll be going back to Keens or Merrells, I guess!

Good Fit For Narrow Foot

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Have size 14+, narrow, long, low volume feet. 14's often too short though foot measures 14. Get good fit with this shoe in size 14. On my 3rd pair. Put a lot of mileage on shoes each year. Sharper edges of grip wear down after a while making them a bit more likely to slide since I am most often on steeper terrain. Soles wear down before uppers but that is after hundreds of miles, often on rough, steep, terrain, and in all kinds of weather. Seem pretty waterproof. Very sturdy shoe. Well made. They do tend to be slippery on wet, slick, or icy surfaces. Shoe laces well.
