I did quite a bit of research before selecting a coat, with one purpose in mind: I wanted to hike for miles in the harshest cold and wind of the Upper Midwest (USA). I'll soon be 70, and I still love time outdoors, no matter the weather. The lads and lassies at Backcountry said this is a great coat. To check further, I chatted online with a rep in Oslo, at Norrona. He said he was wearing this coat home that night in an Oslo snow storm. So I decided if it works in Norway, it'll be just fine in Eastern Iowa.
I just returned from a 5k hike, 3 degrees F outside; high winds. With only a base layer underneath, this coat was easily a match for the weather. Totally comfortable, even in 25+ mph winds. This coat is beautifully crafted. The detail is meticulous. The construction is pretty near flawless. At -20 F, I might want to wear a light packable down jacket under it. Then, I can still hike. My thanks.
What is the weight of insulation. The Tech Specs Tab should be clear about the insulation weight. Not weight of jacket. It lists 1lb 10.8 oz. Is that insulation weight?
