Norrona Lyngen 40L Pack
This 40L fully-featured pack is made for ski touring but is also suitable for mountaineering and trekking. The uniqueness of the pack besides all ski touring features is the ventilated back.
The main fabric is durable ECONYL material which offers premium quality and closed-loop regeneration processes
The main fabric is lightweight 70D ripstop ECONYL, and the pack is reinforced with a 70X320D ECONYL. Both qualities have a PU coating of 2000 mm waterproofness, and consist of 100% regenerated nylon yarn derived from pre and post-consumer waste such as discarded fishing nets and other nylon waste (among others coming from Norway). High-quality zippers from YKK.
The pack has a highly ventilated back, with an open-back construction to create a gap between the back and the pack. The frame is made of steel and is arched in the back, shaped to make the back of the pack bend itself inwards. The aluminum bar helps keep the shape and prevents the volume from bulging out
The pack has a big main compartment, spacious top compartment, a sectioned compartment for your avalanche equipment, and an easily accessible bottom compartment perfect for crampons and a rope. Its made for carrying both ski and snowboard, and you can decide whether to attach them to the side or front. You have easy access to the main compartment from a zippered entrance in the back, where you also find a dedicated hydration pocket connected with a sleeve down the carrying strap. In addition, there is an integrated helmet net that can be mounted on the front or underneath the pack, and the net is designed to prevent snow from getting inside your helmet.
Other functional features include: Compression straps on the side, two ice ax attachments, a hip belt with pocket, and a chest strap with a flute buckle. You can easily hide the straps in a small slit pocket if you need the pack for everyday use. The adjustable shoulder straps are made in a 3D construction to provide even more breathability.

Great Pack, Better Innovation
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I ski aggressively so I demand a pack that sits tight. I was a little skeptical with the "open back" mesh design, which creates a gap between the frame and the pack itself. I understood how it would prevent "back sweat" but would it cause the load to bounce or sway? The answer was no! The mesh design keeps me cool, it sits comfortably snug, but most important it remains just as tight as a traditional design. Added benefit is the gap prevents any sort of lumps from uneven packing from resting uncomfortably against your back. A great innovation, executed well. The large zipper pulls are easy to use with a gloved hand. Dedicated pocket for safety gear, and plenty of options for storing skis/ice axe/etc. Recommended.
